    Any Prospector drivers out there?

I have owned a 17 foot royalex prospector copy, a 16 foot kevlar prospector copy, and I now own a 16 foot wood canvas chestnut fort (prospector) built by Headwaters Canoes on an original chestnut mold. There is no comparison in my opinion. You have not truly lived until you have paddled a wood...

Looking for an equipment shop near Burlington, VT

That is interesting. I wonder what happened there? Maybe the folks at Umiak bought out the old canoe imports folks? Not sure.

There is also a canoe and kayak equipment retailer in the Stowe area - Umiak Outdoor Outfitters.

    Down sleeping bag? (specific criteria)

Seems like the difference between us on the tents may be a function of the fact that we are tripping in different environments. My "winter" tent can be buttoned up and most of the time (spring in Maine, Fall in Maine and summer in the arctic) I am very thankful for that. Rare that it gets hot...

    Picking up a Cronje

I paddled a 17 foot nova craft on a longish trip up north. It was a rental. I liked it. Not sure I liked it more than an old town tripper. Very similar. Maybe not quite as much room - is it a little narrower perhaps? I can't remember. But it is a good tripping canoe no doubt. Hard to find used.

    Picking up a Cronje

Nice canoe. Remarkable condition. If a 17 foot prospector - or a maybe a cruiser - show up in your neck of the woods let me know. Not too bad a drive from Vermont and I would make the trip for sure.

    Down sleeping bag? (specific criteria)

My tripping seems to pretty much end up happening in the shoulder seasons. I prefer down. I am a cold sleeper. Even so, 75% of the time I end up sleeping on a bare therm a rest with my 10 degree bag fully open used as a blanket. I find this to be very comfortable. It gives me room to move...

    Whelen Lean

Nice videos. They take me away from my living room and transport me to where I really want to be. Was that cigar smoke I saw?

    Photo of the day

Yea, I have a one year old grandson - what a thrill it would be if someday I could take him to a place to hear the wolves.

Great pictures - thanks for posting. I still have a solid covering of about six inches of snow and ice in my yard. Wont' have ice out in the northern part of state until May.

Canoe pants: RailRiders has 25% off everything sale until 3/16

When we were planning one of our trips in northern Canada I approached Railriders and they agreed to "sponsor" our trip by outfitting us all with a free pair of pants. I got a pair of pants that they no longer make called canvas pants. They were excellent. I wore them for three weeks straight...

Wanted to Purchase - 17-18 foot wood canvas tripping boat

I'm looking for a 17' or 18' wood canvas tripping boat. Chestnut Garry (Prospector) preferred. Might consider an 18.6 White or 18 Old Town Guide. Others? Perfect condition and Chippendale finish not necessary. Not looking for a basket case but would consider a boat in need of recanvas and...
