    Snake Skin

I would be curious how much weight was added with the gel coats. Not my style, but they did a nice job. Bob

    Grayl water filter

Jim- I’ve heard similar complaints about that system. I’ve had good luck with Katadyn BeFree filters. I’ve had one for several years and no issues. Bob

Do you roll, fold or stuff your tent?

I’m a stuffer when it goes in a sack. I fold my baker and teepee type tents that go in a duffle style bag. Bob

Welcome Mark. I’m not too far north of you in CT. Bob

    Outfitting, Maintenance and Repair Preparations

You can always put a dremel bit in a drill. Might be awkward, but probably less likely to gouge where you don’t want gouging. Bob

"Drag-ability" of hull material over rocks in river beds and on portages

I was in shock and awe seeing the mosaic of colors on the proud nail heads on the dock/walkway on the south end of Saint Regis Lake. I guess some folks were too tired to care after the portage or just don’t care in general. Some serious gouges I’m sure. Bob

    What are you reading?

Shelby Foote’s Civil War series. Beautifully written for nonfiction. Bob

    Dutch Oven Recipes

I do both regularly, but if I’m baking something I almost always use charcoal. The heat is predictable. Bob

Fixing bulkheads and replacing gunwales on '93 kevlar malecite

I trimmed the existing foam on my TW Special and glassed over with no decks like Goonstroke. I can attest to Great Stuff style spray foam absorbing and holding water. I’ve seen it used in some creative auto body repair and you can literally squeeze the water out of it. You can buy marine...

    Ice conditions in Northeast

Folks were out ice fishing yesterday in NW CT. The water I drive by on the way to Hartford, is wide open. Bob

Good luck on your project Kliff. I hope you have better luck finding time to work on yours! I’m hoping to bring mine up to the WCHA Assembly, but time is ticking away. Bob

    A Raven from Scratch

Not sure this is helpful, but I know a builder who adds West System 410 to epoxy to make it sandable for fairing and filling canvas weave. I can’t speak to its transparency. Bob

Cliff Jacobson: NO to skid plates!

Goonstroke is correct. I had this on the bow of a bass boat and it is a very soft pliable material. Perfect for kids sliding it up on a sand beach, but it wouldn’t hold up to rocks. Taking it off would be a sticky mess too. Bob

    Restoring a few axes

Looks great Robin. That’s a good off season project. Bob

    New project... 17.5' Atkinson Traveler

Bummer about the split. It’s going g to be a dandy though. I like the wood choices- it will stand out in a crowd! Bob
