    Best & worst campsites ever?

Incredibly bold of you to camp in that location, on my second Seal trip we stopped just little bit further upriver just to take a break before heading for the cabin at the coast. We cautiously walked around a little bit but I was nervous about going back into the tall bushes too far. After maybe...

    Best & worst campsites ever?

Not the worst camp I've ever been forced to use but it was in the running. Fortunately the weather was dry even if the ground wasn't. I was paddling towards the north end of the Smallwood Reservoir in Labrador, after a fairly long day of huge open water crossings I was heading to a spot that...

    King Arthur's Canoe

You beat me to it! Here Arthur demonstrates his polling technique utilizing a handy oar, no doubt setting out to find Excalibur.

    King Arthur's Canoe

A different rendering. While this boat has a single blade it it an oar rather than a paddle. Looking at similar images of boats of the period and all seem to be row boats rather than canoes. Of course only the Lady knows for sure!

    “alcide quessy fils” canoe

I'm guessing that Alcide was the father, the current paddles made by his Son, that is the person who could probably fill you in on the history of the boat making period.

    “alcide quessy fils” canoe

I found plenty of links via a Google search. It looks like they may not be operating currently. The last address was in the Shawinigan area and from what I can discern they were only making paddles in recent times (recent = 15 - 20 years ago). They had a website at one time but it's no longer...

    What are we doing wrong?

Yes this is important stuff! On the rare occasion when I paddle tandem (I'm in the stern), the bow paddler is generally lacking in experience and/or they have always paddled bow and do not have eyes in the back of their head. I find they often start to increase their stroke rate, doing so makes...

    Another Royalex Repair question

The natural colour for Royalex is white(ish), the raw Royalex is then covered by a vinyl skin which can be any colour. Your boat might have had a vinyl layer that was teal, then repainted yellow (or vice versa).

    What are we doing wrong?

One of the most common causes of what you are describing is simple bad paddling technique, It is however quite easy to fix. You are probably doing a sweep stroke with your paddle looking like this "\" instead of like this "|". Keels on a canoe don't really help and can in fact make the...

What's your morning routine on canoe trips?

I can't really explain why but it takes me 3 - 4 hours to wake up, get up, pack up and get moving. Getting on the water before Noon is a rare event.

    La Vérendrye: Extended season.

Looks like it's limited to the Le Domaine "green zone" only, a pretty small portion of the park.

Link color bug/oversight in "Shades of Blue" theme.

Thanks Glenn, your reply is what I assumed and after reading your recent post about themes I understood that only the default themes are free of this (minor) issue. I made a brief switch to one of the default themes but I'm back using Chestnut Green as it is the most pleasing to MY eyes.

Link color bug/oversight in "Shades of Blue" theme.

Similar issue with the Chestnut Green theme. It's always been that way, If some writes "I have posted a video" and they bury the link in the word "video" it's difficult (for me) to see that the word video is actually a link.

Any Advice On 8-10 Day Wabakimi Route

@jdeerfoot Curious what your planned route was? I camped at the portage from Harris to Harold in 2017, my first night of a 46 day trip ending at Fort Albany on James Bay. All the ports getting to Savant Lake were pretty overgrown, I did a small amount of clearing but didn't bring my big snips...

Poll: Drill wood inwales or drill kevlar hull for float bag cage?

I didn't vote because I have zero experience with a Kevlar hull. Pretty much all my Royalex boats have a variety of holes used for gear cages mostly, flotation rarely. A minor bonus with the holes in the hull, sometimes you just need to get to shore and roll the boat over to get rid of a...

Photos of Portage / Canoe Carry Signs

I'm fairly confident I can see the take out and trail, I am a bit less confident that the little light coloured smear I see up by the larger trees is actually a marker. Flagging tape is variable for my eyes, if it's the classic really bright orange/red I'm ok but some of the low quality...

What U.S. or Canadian documentation do you need to cross into the other country and back?

Requirements to enter Canada, note that they vary depending on your country of citizenship and mode of entry (air/ground/marine) https://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/travel-voyage/td-dv-eng.html I can't find a clean link for re-entering the US but I did find this...

    Olympics Canoe or Kayak

The Slalom C1 finals yesterday were fantastic, the last paddler blew everyone away with no penalties and the best time by 5 seconds. The decked canoeist kneels on a pedestal No pedestals in the CI boats that I could see, don't know where you would fit one given the very shallow depth of those...

Satellite Communicator (Garmin In Reach Mini II) questions.

I think the InReach fee when suspended is $6 month (I'm on a 9 year old plan so new subscriptions could be a bit different. You only pay the full fee when the device is active and even that is prorated so if you only use for one week you pay 25% of whatever plan you are on. I don't really enjoy...
