What about a smaller section of a floating dock like jet dock. They are 2'x2' interlocking floating cubes. They are made to have small powerboats drive up on them. Our docks at camp are jet docks and they are gunnel height. Just sit down and swing your feet in!

Where do you routinely go? Many areas up here in the north east now require a bear proof container, most of which you don't hang.

I have done both. As I get older, when I can, my knees prefer a cot. Either way you will need to insulate under you. In a hot tent I use the same ground insulation weather I'm on a cot or not.

Great stuff. In my younger days I was a mountaineering guide, I lived and slept in Feathered Friends. I still have several sleeping bags, some of them 15+ years old. Good down, if properly cared for, is a long term investment!

I can start with any size lumber I can get my hands on. I'll run it over the joiner a couple of times to surface 1 face and 1 edge, rip to desired width on the table saw, then use my band saw with a 1/2" skip tooth blade and a shop made single point resaw fence to cut to a desired thickness...

I use a bandsaw with a resaw fence, then a MDF carrier thru my planer.
