From my research, it sounds like skid plates are a hot topic. Some advicate for them, and it sounds like other believe they do not belong on boats. Given the pics below, do you believe it time? It does not appear to be in the foam. DO you think I could get away with one of the peel and sticks like EZkeel?

How long did it take for it to accumulate that much wear? It certainly doesn't look very deep or severe. If this happened over the course of years then something like EZKeel should be plenty. If it happened in 2 weeks you might want something a bit more robust.

That "damage" is very minimal, in my opinion it's just a tiny bit past the optimum time to apply skids.

EZ-Keel would work but real skids using Dynel will last a lot longer and provide protection from both scraping and impacts.

There are lots of old threads here in the archives with techniques and tricks to make them long lasting and less sloppy.

Unsure. I just bought the boat and I wasnt the one who caused the damage.

However, I can say I plan to run the boat in remote rivers. Often times they are rocky. So it will likely see some abuse.

How to make the EZ-Keel long lasting and less sloppy, or one of the more durable option?

The more durable options:

one last chip.....I assume a small chip like this we just feather/soften the edges, fill with epoxy, and blend smooth?

Hard to tell from the pic how deep that is but regardless I would fill with epoxy and then cover with a small patch of s-glass or dynel. I have a few similar "chips", if I just fill with epoxy it tends to need a refill fairly quickly if it's going to be getting the rough treatment (scraping/grinding on rocks).
