    Maskwa reboot

Christy, if you want to take them for an overnighter, consider Seagrim's Chain. I really like it for introducing people to paddling and backcountry camping. It's a very short route and offers great camping, swimming and fishing. Busy on weekends though.

In need of 30" inseam rain pants

Found some Marmot Precips in Canada so I bought them. I was in Atmosphere (which only lists Women's Precips) and just asked the guy to check the back. They had one pair of full zip in stock. They have both a drawstring and snaps on the ankles so they'll sit fine on my boots. Since I'm able to...

In need of 30" inseam rain pants

So I searched for a Canadian retailer and found those Watershed pants on Amazon.ca from a reseller. $580! Wow. Nice lookin' pants though!

    Tips on float bag installation

I just drill through the boat under the gunwales. I've done it on my Royalex Nova Craft, Kevlar/Glass Souris River and now my T-Formex Esquif (all three vinyl gunwales). Rather than pay for the North Water or equivalent kit I just buy two lightweight D-Rings and some paracord. I install a run of...

In need of 30" inseam rain pants

Mike, I've tried putting my rainpants on over my work boots before. Pretty silly. I have size 9.5 feet and can get my rain pants on over my Bean boots. Any idea who still makes rain pants with reinforced knees?

In need of 30" inseam rain pants

Those look great! Codura fabric on the ankles sounds more durable than the Arc'teryx pants. Their store won't show me the price because they're out of stock right now.

What kinds of dry meats do people bring?

Take a nice salami. It's a great with lunch and with some wine at dinner. I've also cut it up and thrown it into a spaghetti or gnocchi, with wine of course. grocery stores in Canada carry a nice salami that comes with different flavourings. I've had homemade beef jerky before but I don't think...

In need of 30" inseam rain pants

Chris, I like your idea of using snaps. My old 32" pants had Velcro to tighten the hemline. I would have only half the Velcro engaged to have them sit properly on my boots. They would always let go and i'd be walking on them. Dangerous! If I can place snaps where I need them i won't have that...

In need of 30" inseam rain pants

No Title yellowcanoe The rain pants I had used Velcro on the cuffs. It never stayed hooked. I'm not keen on the idea of elastics. When it's time to put rain pants on I want them on quickly; my hands back on the paddle before the wind blows us into a rapid we haven't scouted (yes it's...

In need of 30" inseam rain pants

Time to replace my rain pants and this time I'll be buying short leg pants (I'm 5'7"). My previous pair had a 32" inseam and I found them frustrating and dangerous. In pouring rain I'd end up walking on the cuffs which makes for a slippery situation. I'm looking for something packable, durable...

    Another Manitoban

Thanks everyone! Karin, I know you've paddled the Rice River. Have you paddled toward Lake Winnipeg ? That's where the picture in my first post is from. Not much of a trip since the road is so close but the area is very scenic and there's a lot of islands to camp on. Alan, thanks. I may post...

    30 liter Barrel Pack

I have the 60l CCS barrel harness with pockets. In the side pockets I generally keep fuel in one side and saws in the other. One side pocket will fit my Silky Gomboy 240 and Pocketboy 170. If I'm thinking I keep that pocket up in case I need to cut branches while on the water. The top pocket...

    Another Manitoban

Joined up after reading Alan Gage's Wollaston to Goose Lake report. So far I've tripped only in Manitoba. The only exception was sneaking into Ontario for a few day when my wife and I made our way to the Bloodvein River. My favourite rivers to paddle are the Black and Manigotagan Rivers in/near...
