    Is Canoe Trolling REALLY Trolling?

Just a bit of a thought, the longer the rod, the more difficult it is to net the fish. Like others have said - a medium action 6'+ standard rod is just fine.

    Late season on the Assiniboine

My family (well my dad and his family) is from Sturgis!! I canoed that river as a kid. I live in Winnipeg and was thinking it would be awesome (but probably very slow) to canoe from sturgis to winnipeg!

    Painting a fiberglass canoe..??

I have looked into it. Interlux is $65 a pint. IF i can paint entire canoe with one pot then it isnt too expensive. Tremclad is around $20, so there definitely is a cost difference, but not too bad if i only need 1 can. Alternately Canadian Tire carries this stuff...

    Seat Frame Mortise

Does anyone ever use Mahogany? I have a pile of 1 1/4".. it is the (currently unavailable) south american kind, from Honduras. I was thinking of using it to make seat rails.... i also have a ton of poplar... sooo much poplar. 8/4.

    Painting a fiberglass canoe..??

So in a month or so i am planning on building a canoe (or 3). But first i need to get my existing canoe ready for this year. A previous owner did some patching to it, poorly, and then sprayed over it with a slightly different shade of green. I would like to repaint it. It is a fiberglass nova...

    Seat Frame Mortise

Now this has got me wondering... i asked this question in another post - are countoured seats made with a wider piece and cut down, steam bent, or bent laminations?.. and i was directed here to this post. Now i am wondering which to go with. The one piece would make the most out of a nice piece...

    Seat Frame Mortise

Thank you very much. I have a very pretty piece of cherry i would like to use. It is already 1 1/4" wide by 3 1/2" wide. If i had a 1" dip that would leave me 1 1/4 for each rail.. or more accurately 1 3/16" after saw kerf. This is my first attempt at making seats and dont want to goof it right...

    Seat Frame Mortise

You said they are 5/4 wide. It looks like you started out fairly high, but are now making them a little thinner. What size rails are you using now? 5/4 x 1 1/2? 1 1/4??

    Yet another first(ish) time builder

Hey, i am new to this, and as i said before this is a planning phase, so i value any feedback greatly. Yes, i do repairs to the stems. I heard that adding extra layers there slows the canoes down, so i was avoiding it. I have a Nova Craft tripper. I was thinking of repainting it this spring. A...

How much deflection is there from plane down to the bottom of the curve of the seat? Does it go down an inch? 1.5" what is the bow?

    Yet another first(ish) time builder

Alan. Thanks. Some good insight. The reason i wanted to go with a form is that i really want 3 canoes. I have some experience vacuum bagging and would like to give it a go on a canoe. I figure if i can make a good mold from a stripper it would be strong enough and if i glassed it - smooth enough...
