Just got one today and its set up in the hotel room (trip starts tomorrow). It is beefier in construction over the A lite Mantis Chair and wobbles far less. It probably will dig in in sand. The comfort of a Crazy Creek but off the ground.

Its higher than the Mantis by about four inches for us old people. I had to wrestle with it a little more than the guy in the video ; kind of expected with a new chair.

Hi Yellow Canoe, That chair looks to be a lot better than the other one you were looking at. I've been giving some thought to the problem of the feet sinking into the sand. Over on the DIY form Murat V has made a great three legged stool. The seat part is a beautifully decorated triangle of leather with pockets to hold on the ends of the legs. What if you made out of strong nylon fabric a four sided "seat" that would fit on the bottom of the legs on your chair? Now the legs would sink down in some, but as soon as the center portion of the "seat" started taking up some stress I'll bet the legs would stop sinking. You wouldn't need to take the "seat" with you all the time only when you expected to have soft ground. But I still wouldn't trust it on my tent floor.

Good luck with all the crocodiles, alligators, pythons and what not! Actually they make Chiggers sound attractive!

I took the plunge after seeing a lengthy video review by a 300lb member of another forum. He suggested cutting slits in tennis balls and attaching them to the feet. I'm 6'4" x 250lb x 61yr (with knees needing replacement). I find it remarkably comfortable......I was surprised. As they say on the package "sitting is believing". I can only get 2 of the 4 tennis balls into the bag with the chair but that's a small inconvenience. I can even stand up from the seated position, without grabbing on to something! Big investment but, appears very well made. Maybe the search is finally over........I sure hope so.

After plopping my arse in the Helinox for a week in La Verendrye, where campsites with sandy beaches filled with ants abound (hence you appreciate getting OFF the sand) I can attest that the Helinox does not sink equally with all four feet in the sand. It takes some time but eventually I did topple over with this inequality. There was no sinkage on the boreal forest floor. I hate taking yet more gizmos.. unless I can figure out another use for four tennis balls. I try to double portage and met my nemesis last week. Short does not equal a cakewalk.

Yes getting up was a consideration for me too! I would rather rise without having to fall out first, which ruled out the A lite chairs for me. The chair packs in a neat little package that easily fills in a void in the big pack.. Maybe I will go for two tennis balls as Topher suggests. The back legs always sunk more. The other alternative is to take my six by six packcloth square that I use for an entry mat on sand or a chickee silverware loss avoidance tool. That might spread out the pressure more.

What at are the black parts that the blue poles made from? The main hubs I suppose you would call them.
