There has been a hole in my fleet for a while now. I have a Kevlar Spirit II with bucket seats that is a great lake cruiser and will carry a lot of gear. I also have a Mohawk Whitewater 16 that is great for poling and moving water, but really isn’t big enough for tripping (at least the way I pack). I needed a royalex river tripper. Well, I worked a deal with a friend to trade my old Dagger Cascade C1 (can no longer kneel in it) to a friend for a Mad River Explorer 17.

The boat was built in 1991 and has a couple of pretty significant fiberglass repairs in the bow, but it still paddles great. It has new gunwales and thwarts with original seats, yoke and carrying handles. It had a center seat that I took out – I want the room for gear and I don’t plan to paddle this boat solo. I have another friend that likes to repair boats who will put the center seat to good use. I need to add some D-rings to strap in gear, but I don’t think I will do much else. I finally got it out last weekend with some gear.

I know, it is embarrassing how much stuff we bring along, but this boat will carry it. My fleet is complete. :)
