I am active on a couple other canoe/backcountry sites, and have been actively exploring our great outdoors since my early teens, over 40 years ago.

Being from Alberta, river tripping is more common than flatwater tripping, though I just got back from a glorious 5 day trip on Maligne Lake, in Jasper National Park. Simply outstanding beauty there, hard to be beat.

I have paddled mostly tandem, with a couple solo trips, but am currently (for 3 years that is) building a solo stripper. I also have a Swift Winisk and a Hellman Prospector. The latter I am looking to trade up to a more river specific boat, like a Esquif Canyon, or an Evergreen Starburst.

I have browsed a bit, but still have some more good reading to do.

Cheers,
Jim

Glad you could join us fellow Canadian! I know you'll find some great advice and stories here, eh? (sorry, couldn't resist that one)

Have a great day

Thanks for the kind reception, folks.

I have linked to a photo taken on Maligne Lake in Jasper NP last Sunday, on a trip. I tried uploading, but the file was too large. Need to figure that out.

Non traditional Infused gunwales and a happy dog.. I take it though you didn't have to portage much? Your canoe looks a lot lighter than your packs!

Willing to trade my Mattawa for the Winisk...

Knew your name from somewhere, finally found it in the Bear Mountain forums. I really need a life.

No portaging on this trip, we did not go real light. We were carrying a bit of gear for a 'yakker, plus making room for Jasper. The canoe is light at 40 lbs. Jasper loves canoeing, but sure isn't much of a paddler, viewing it more like a spectator sport. :)

Yep, that's me. I hadn't been around there in a while, as life got in the way of my build, but recently went back to see the forum wasn't there, as they were working on the site. Is it back yet that you know of?

I was in there this afternoon looking for you, so I assume it is back. It was funny to see the responce to my post about launching my stripper back in 2011 was the last in the Cottage Cruiser topic.

So it is, thanks. My old bookmark no longer worked, and a couple weeks back, I had been emailing with Joan who said they hoped to get it back soon. Their updated main site sure looks nicer.
