Waterproof Speaker - Say It Isn't So

I wonder why the need for "waterproof" speakers at all.

Waterproof, dustproof, sandproof, mudproof, connect wirelessly to your smartphone or tablet. Some can be used as charging banks for other electronic devices. Some are small enough to clip on your pack.

Take them to outdoor parties, picnics, beach, camping, backpacking, motor boating, yachting, and . . . obviously . . . on canoe and kayak trips to tick us off.
 
Probably originally intended for the beach goers. Those things are nearly as aggravating there as they are in the back country. And there are often multiples going at once.
 
Is this any better? Paul Smiths College just spent $10,000 to build a giant megaphone to amplify outdoor sounds in the Adirondacks.

 
Two weeks ago on the St. Croix here in Maine we passed by the Baby's Grave campsite where four kids in their 20s/30s were blasting Ozzy Osbourne's "Crazy Train" while preparing breakfast. We paddled just a little faster to make sure they didn't catch up to us.
