Nice looking canoe, but I'm confused about the two seats. They both look like they are installed backwards--i.e., with the curved edge facing the stern instead of the bow. Is this so, or am I seeing things incorrectly?

If you are seeing things incorrectly we both need to go to the optometrist! They look backward to me too!

It's just the angle. I assure you there is more curve in the front of the seat than the rear. Comfy seats too.

I did not repair it, Dave Curtis of Hemlock Canoe did. And actually it didn't even need that patch. It's just there for a factor of safety... The boat was never soft where those spider webs are. It's all in the clear coat. Dave and I decided that because it's right near the foam mat, that a reinforcing patch would be a good idea in case it takes another whack in the same area. All the webs except that one on the side under the gunwale run right along the mat, so it's the differential stiffness that caused the gel coat failure. I'm assured it's all cosmetic and I can provide you Dave Curtis to vouch for the inspection and determination... he's been laminating and repairing boats for god knows how long. I trust his judgement.

Yes I'm in upstate NY. The boat may go to Hemlock in a couple weeks if it doesn't sell right away or if someone wants to test paddle it. I need to talk with Dave about consignment but I'd like to have it available for test paddling.

Christine is flying home to Welland, Ontario early October, you think she could bring it back as carry on?

PS Dave can ship boats. I've no idea what it costs but he does it often and they make it unscathed.

I suggest since it's a current production model if you have interest, test paddle one at your closest Swift dealer and if you want the boat, we'll figure a way to get it to you. You can also get an idea of what this one would cost new ;)

If anyone has any questions about the dings and the patch, give Dave a call at (585) 367-3040. He'll know what boat it is.

The thing is, at 16 feet it wouldn't be much of a improvement over the Mattawa, only 4 inches of length and it has those tanks/bulkheads which take up space. My Mattawa doesn't have those and we do use the bow and stern space.

We know the Mattawa was not designed for persons of our size or the amount of crap we take with us and we do need a bigger boat but still need to keep the weight down. I also really don't want to part with the Mattawa since it is unique in being a first off the mold boat with the kev/carbon gunwales.

I missed this post. Not that I really want to compete with my own boat, but if it's not the boat for you, keep lookin'...

Again it's far but I'm sure it could be shipped. Personally, I think the price is too high. $2k is what I'd sell that boat for if it was mine. You might be able to pick up a new one for that price + shipping. There is no import tax on canoes, just state/province tax, or so I'm told.

True. No duty on canoes made in North America but taxes on entry to Canada can be hefty depending on province

Thanks!

Yup - we are going to trade-in or sell our fiberglass Eagle and have a carbon/Kevlar version built.

Eventually there will be a big boat going into slot 3 (well unless my wife gets into solo paddling).

So instead of having two 16'ers, we are going to have 16' and a 18'+. I'm trying to diversify my portfolio.

If I had no money or space constraints I would have kept my current boats and bought the one I'm having built now... but this one will fill the gap between the other two. I'm taking what I like best out of each of the two I had and putting it into one boat.
