I'm considering buying a used Wenonah Wee Lassie to go with my Clipper Packer for shorter paddles locally. Any thoughts on the performance of this canoe? At first the idea of sitting on the bottom seemed uncomfortable, but then I remembered that I spent several years paddling a sea kayak.

I picked up my used Wee Lassie last Friday and finally had some weather today that would allow me to paddle it. I will say that I was pleasently surprised at how well it tracked, decent speed and of course the light weight for handling ashore. Took a kayak paddle to see how I'd like that and wasn't impressed. I won't rule that out for later on but after an hour and a half with my graphite bent canoe paddle, I was more than satisfied with that. Only negative was my bulky PFD not feeling good with a seat-back so next outing I'm wearing my Mustang inflatible.

@Packrat I guess it will be up to you now to give us your thoughts on the Wee Lassie's performance. :)

I'm curious about your choice of the single blade from the floor seat, and if that changes your preference among single blades. I had to resort to the floor seat for a while during my recovery from illness due to balance issues, and I used a single blade well enough but not long enough to say if I would prefer the one I used or another (I soon was back to a higher seat).

I was surprised that the single bent canoe paddle felt the best since I've always paddled on a higher sitting position in my canoes. After watching videos of kayak paddling the Wee Lassie I expected it to be easier and may a tad faster speed wise but that didn't happen for me. I'm planning on do some more experimenting with different kayak paddles to see if I was wrong in my initial testing. After my first outing I'd paddle my Lassie with a 2x4 just to enjoy the light load to carry or lift it onto my truck!

One other thing that I forgot was that kayak paddles drip a lot of water in your lap and unlike a kayak, canoes don't have a spray skirts.
