Anybody hear anything about the new Northstar Trillium? Just saw it listed on their website, mistakenly under the tandem canoes. Looks to be a slightly smaller Northwind Solo... thoughts?
 
Not surprising. Solo canoes often come in sizes but similar design like the Kestrel and the Peregrine by Hemlock and the Keewaydin 14 and 15 by Swift. Small paddlers in a too large solo have too much skin friction to overcome.. Too large a paddler in a too small boat sinks it too deep and has too high a center of gravity for stability. Then there is the question of stroke efficiency.

Not likely to see any of Ted's boats in number on the East Coast.
 
agreed. It also seems that the back thwart gives more room to get a bag in the back, but maybe it had to be that way because of the room you lose with it being a foot shorter. I wish I had somewhere close to try paddling both.
