New Swift Tandem?: Kruger 16.6

That listing is the only publically available evidence that such a boat exists. Seems counter to their usual pomp and circumstance to put one in the wild without an announcement

Not to mention that the Kruger moniker is synonymous with decked expedition craft. Weird choice for an open boat with recurved stems. The resolution on the label looks slightly better than the surrounding fabric and gunnel lines, also.

From an image analysis request:
The supplied photograph contains no usable camera EXIF information. Its JPEG metadata identifies the GD JPEG encoder, quality setting 85, which is consistent with image processing or re-encoding.

That does not establish alteration, but it means this copy cannot be treated as an untouched camera original. Error-level and compression comparisons are consequently of limited evidentiary value.

I believe that "Kruger" was Chestnut's name for their 16 foot "Cruiser" model. The 17 footer was the "Cronje", and that name has also been resurrected, by NovaCraft I think.

That would suggest a model a bit narrower, less rockered, and faster than the Prospector. Although Swift's Prospectors themselves are not accurate copies of the traditional model.

That's interesting; I remember David Yost saying the Cruisers were his favorite Chestnuts

"Nearly synonymous" 😉😁
Different Kruger. Verlen Kruger, of expedition fame, designed the expedition boats, SeaWind etc, and I think the Sawyer Loon (I think his partner, Steve Landick designed the similar Mad River Monarch). Dave Kruger designed a number of boats for Wenonah, including the Advantage, seemingly taking the reins of Gene Jensen.

Man, learn something new every time I log in around here. Thanks!

Ah, that escaped me. Thanks for the correction.

DY stated in an old Swift video that he had pulled the lines for the Swift Prospector 16 off of an early version of the Chestnut Prospector. This is possible, as the Chestnut factory burned down in I believe the 1920s, and there is said to be some noticeable differences in the pre and post fire hull shapes.

As many know or should know. There is no ONE traditional model prospector. Or at least even the model that many regard as "the one" one that has build bi Chessnut altered in time due to the fact of wearing the mould/shape down. To me if somebody talks about a prospector I think the mean a high volume 16 to 18 ft canoe with recuvred ends. That is capable to be dry in waves and is more manouvrabel then speedy.

That the names of kruger and cronjee are still used in the paddling world is a bit sad to me as think the rever to 2 leaders of the africaner movement that fought a war that did not lead to a better world at all.
