I've seen this before, and wondered, if anyone has attempted to build a Tortured hull ?
I have a couple sheets of 3mil Okume.
I may try this one day !
Here is the video, and I believe there is a link, that gives instructions !

I built the 12 foot one sheet version. It's too low volume for me but will suit my grandson in a few years. Bringing it from a flat shape of plywood to a canoe is amazing. I still can't get my head round it.View attachment 146650
Looks great samb !
So could you share more details as to the construction ?
Did you need to steam the hull ? And How ?
How wide was the plywood, when you started to bend it ?
Thanks !

Jim

Thanks Jim

It's made from an 8x4 sheet of 3mm marine ply. (British Standard 1088 guarantees no voids and continuous waterproof glue - any voids in the ply would certainly result in damage when bending started) No need to steam anything, but some people pour on boiling water as they bend it up. In the link to my build below is discussion of avoiding damage even with certified plywood.

Peters video that you posted shows the technique better than I can describe it and here are the original photos and drawings for the 12' from Flo-mo the designer and here are more examples of other sizes
Finally, This link shows my build and the problems I encountered.

Have a go - they are great boats to build and light weight too

I'm getting more excited, even though I'm in the process, of building two canoes.
How do I go about purchasing plans ?

Jim

Jim - Not sure if this is helpful or not so I'll let you decide....

Chesapeake Light Craft has a canoe made from the type of plywood you've mentioned. While I didn't make their canoe, a friend of mine and I built two of their classic touring sea kayaks out of the same material back in the 90s. My buddy moved out of the area so I don't know how his boat is holding up but mine is doing well; albeit currently stored in our barn. I'm not a builder by anyone's imagination but even I was able to construct a serviceable boat with this plywood. In fact, this particular boat was the one I usually paddled when leading both day and overnight trips in the Adirondacks

That's all for now. Take care and until next time....be well.
