Saturday night I went to the kayak club party, which included a “secret Santa” style gift exchange. I guess I’m a ”stir the pot” kind of guy, because I was determined to give a canoe-centric gift. I painted a pair of wine glasses with the CANOE guy graphic.

My gift was the third to be opened and was “stolen” the maximum of twice by the 11th pick. The kayakers loved these glasses with the kayaks painted on them. I told the recipients the were canoes, but they look at them and say, “no, those are kayaks!” And on a hike yesterday, I showed the photo to kayakers on the hike, who all say, “nice kayak art.”

It’s amazing how our brains condition us to see what we think about.

I was happy the gifts were appreciated, but a little disappointed I couldn’t create a little fuss with a canoe themed gift.

It could be a person sitting in the back cockpit of a tandem kayak using a single blade paddle. More importantly, you have proved the ancient belief that red canoes are faster, since the red one is clearly ahead and almost ready to exit the glass.

Seriously, a very nice gift, Chip.
