I've seen this 1977 Red Cross film before, but I don't recall whether it's been posted here. Regardless, the risks and safety precautions depicted are timeless—and reminders are always a good idea.

The film depicts canoeing about the time I got involved with serious whitewater. Flotation was big foam blocks, tire tubes, or dozens of empty plastic bottles in net bags. The foam-ribbed, canoe-oriented PFDs by Extrasport and Seda were full length, protected both your front and back from impacts while swimming, and helped keep you warm in snow melt waters and even on land—all unlike the kayak-oriented, low cut, bare back, and pregnancy bump PFDs now sold for absurd prices. But I digress as I regress, so pay attention to the still-relevant film.

Yep, that's when I started. Payson Kennedy's "Carolina Whitewater" was the bible. Blue Hole canoes, Romer helmets, and Seda vests (replaced my second Seda just last year after another 30 years of use--I'm pregnant now). Risks are still the same.
