Robin, what books did you read about the area? I too live where Mem lives, but have just been here since the fall. I would love to read and learn about this area.

    Name this fish

By the description and activity it sounds like a Largemouth Bass.

    wood ticks

I used to live in the height of Deer Tick territory for Ontario, near Long Point on Lake Erie. The health unit there recommends long pants and socks be worn and to use Deet on pants etc. to repel the little buggers.

Opening Walleye season on Murkey Creek, Northern Ontario

Just the canoe for now, have the motor and all accessories, just no boat yet. Our boats are stashed at the deer hunt camp south of Parry Sound. Looking at picking up a boat and trailer for here soon though. The Mrs. picked up a new rod and reel at Skinners last weekend (it matches her boots you...

    Who still brings axes?

Hey Mem, you aren't alone anymore, as long we count my 14' prospector as a solo canoe... And just for the sake of the thread, I still carry an axe when I trip..

Some canoe hunting pictures I found

Geez Mem, that sounds like a pretty sweet deal. A real live sleeping bag warmer while on a backwoods hunt.

    What are you reading?

I have a copy "Chips from a Wilderness Log" by Calvin Rutstrum and am looking for some of his other books. I agree with tech on "A Walk In The Woods" by Bryson, excellent read, as are most of his books.

    Photo of the day

Thank you memaquay! I have wondered about Murkey Creek since my first trip to Nakina in September. It crossed my mind as I crossed the bridge on my way last night even. May head in that direction to go snowshoeing tomorrow.

So, what old item do you still use?

Still using my 1970's Coleman 505A single burner white gas stove. Lights easy and has that smell when burning that takes me back to my childhood.

    Hello from NWO

Thanks for the photo posting help! I appreciate it. Living in Geraldton and just starting to get a feel for the area. My work takes me from one end of Greenstone to the other so i am getting to see lots of countryside. As for the Holy Cow Canoe, no complaints. Its a 14' prospector design in...

    Your next canoe trip?

Not exactly sure where the exact location of my next trip will be. I do know that it will be in the Greenstone area of northwestern Ontario. I am currently working on planning with maps of the area that I have begun to compile.
