The event she is interested in is "geared toward all types of recreational, touring or racing watercraft". Therefore it qualifies for this challenge. Good point though.

JCH, I live close to Grayling and paddle the AuSable often. I have a Wenonah Voyager and would highly recommend one. It is designed as a tripping canoe and is very efficient loaded or empty. It's a great boat to have.

I love watching the climbers as well, it has always intrigued me. Living in Michigan, climbing gyms are the only option and then I realize it's not my thing. ;)

I love land navigation/orienteering. I used to do adventure racing and it came in handy since a lot of teams could run or bike really fast but coming out of the land nav sections we were usually far ahead. The local National Guard have a permanent land nav course set up with 50 check points and...

I stashed my bicycle, helmet and shoes in the woods and went for a long run. When I returned to retrieve my bike i realized I had hidden it on a small ant hill. It's not fun being treated like a chew toy when you're hot, sweaty and tired.😡

I've had many folks question the cost of my canoe/bicycle fleet. It seems these same people have motor boats, snowmobiles, motorcycles, atv's etc..... They've got the initial cost, a trailer, insurance, gas, registrations, trail passes and off season up keep. I've got the initial cost only...

There's quite a few canoe liveries nearby but I can't think of any that offer full outfitting for a camping trip. It's also convenient to toss my canoe on the car and hit the local river or lake without having to wait for the outfitter to open so I can paddle a few hours on any given day.
