    What about a Wenonah Moccasin?

Yeah, much nicer than the one I have here. And with two nice paddles. Kinda funny that it's in the same neighborhood where I found my Dagger Sojourn. So, I pulled the tape off the inside of the crack. It's not terrible. I think it's going to be a pretty easy fix - when I get around to it. Not...

    Bell Traveler III

The whole chart confuses me, now that I can see all of it. Wildfire best at 2 weeks but only better at 1 week. A lot of missing information. If I was near that Traveler, I'd want to test it. Good (not so good) initial stability sounds like it might be fast.

    Bell Traveler III

Upper right corner, there's a ringing endorsement. It's listed in the chart with other solos, but the use recommendations are cut off.

    Bell Traveler III

A search turns up this quote about the Traveler III. Sounds like my kind of canoe. I wouldn't be too quick to lower the price......if I was inclined to sell.

Polar bears play with sled dogs

Yeah, when I've had plenty to eat, I'm calmer and more friendly too. And I'm likely to stick around - but might get very upset if the chuckwagon closes. There's a life lesson somewhere in there. ;)

    Thigh Straps for Seated Canoeing?

BTW - I think that Guide will be the perfect candidate.

    Thigh Straps for Seated Canoeing?

I think it's a good idea, actually. Might be critical where you anchor the ends, but I don't see any reason why it wouldn't help. By coincidence, I happened to spend a long day on the take in the Wildfire today - fishing. I covered about 12 miles, hitting a lot of different known hot spots...

Canoe odyssey just begun from NW-most to SE-most points in USA

It's on his Instagram feed that's linked in the Paddling mag story you posted.

Canoe odyssey just begun from NW-most to SE-most points in USA

He's halfway across Washington today. Video shows him using a double, which is okay with me if it's working for him. ;) And he's discovered the value of bank hugging micro eddies. I can't wait to see how he handles crossing Pend Oreille and going up the Clark Fork.

BTW, I think that custom Cruiser is awesome.👍

Canoe odyssey just begun from NW-most to SE-most points in USA

This is all funny. Everyone I know who doesn't own a canoe asks me where I've been kayaking lately. I don't bother to correct them. Meanwhile.... Still a lot of upstream travel on the horizon. Fair winds!

    Mad River Freedom on CL

"Guest" appears to be a former member here, Mike McCrea. Riverbasin, if you have aquired a kevlar MR Guide, you are blessed. Enjoy! And welcome.

Are You Prepared to Confront Spider Bites?

Are those the white or pale green ones with long legs and tiny bodies? I just count on sharing my canoe with them at some point. I have a favorite kind of spider - in fact, I consider them pets in my home. I read some years ago that jumping spiders tend to discourage other spiders from...

    Barbless hooks

This thread popped up for me again, and it now occurs to me that I didn't answer this question. My observation in Idaho is that poor people don't do their fishing in the places or under conditions where barbless hooks are required. These places are generally remote or otherwise inconvenient for...

What Size Spinning Rod for Paddlecraft?

One of the places I fish puts me among a lot of trees with low hanging limbs. I use an ultralight 4.5' spinning rig for that. Since it's a lake, if I need more reach I can just paddle closer. Most of the rest of the time, I'm using my 5.5' ultralight with 5 lb Spiderwire. It's surprising how...

Trimming small canoe to face down river

I haven't found anything that works, and frankly, I've stopped trying. Part of the problem is that even on a calm day, your movement with the current creates "apparent wind" that tends to turn your canoe. Then there's the real wind and variations in the river current. I use the same tactics...

    What's out West?

You might also consider leaving I90 at Missoula and crossing Idaho via highway 12. Follows the Lochsa river and then the Clearwater. Very scenic, and the Clearwater is canoeable from just above Kooskia. Then head north from Lewiston and catch Upper Priest on the way. That is, if you're okay with...

What is your local day paddle?

I have several local day trip venues within less than an hour. My three closest haunts though are these.... Lake Lowell- part of the Deer Flat Wildlife Reserve, which is 15 minutes from my house. Getting to be a lot of beaver dens here. Of course, the lower Boise River - also 15 minutes...

    What's out West?

If you take I90, you'll be following the Clark Fork river going west out of Missoula. Leave the interstate at Wye and follow the river on HWY 200, all the way to Lake Pend Oreille. Worth the drive, even if you never wet a boat. Last I checked, there are shuttle services, and much of the river is...
