    Wenonah Paddle Shaft Replacment

For what it's worth, I've repaired a bunch of wenonah shafts on paddles we used as rentals (tour life elbow). You can do a decent repair if you are willing to add a bit weight. My method is to clamp the shaft together as close as possible and then drill a bunch of holes and squirt in some...

Show pictures of your tent(s) on a canoe trip

Exped Venus 2 on Stewart lake. A well made tent that is somewhere between a heavy 3 season and lightweight 4 season tent.

Rain Jacket - Inside or Out?

I guess for me it depends on if I'm wearing my life jacket when it starts raining.

    Making DIY Dynel (Faux) Tape?

I think the 3M 77 should work. If it were me I would spray the cloth, fold it over and then try to compress it a bunch to knock down the folds. Then I would spray tack the whole thing to the hull and wet it out. That being said, I've never done the fold it over part.

    Making DIY Dynel (Faux) Tape?

The 3M spray tack that some composites stores sell would probably be your best bet. Alternatively, I bet you could just sew a folded over piece of dynel together, and then trim the allowance real close. although I haven't ever tried this, so maybe it would be a complete disaster. Quinn

    BWCA Arrowhead

I wouldn't worry to much about it being busy where ever you go. Sept. is way different than July or early Aug., and by late Sept there is hardly anyone around. I would say your odds of encountering unpleasant winds on Pine are pretty high. For whatever reason I've never loved Pine, and much...

    BWCA Arrowhead

The royal river is my preferred fall color paddling destination. There is good walleye fishing in the fowls. As Dan says, moon is a great walleye lake with some big pike as well. By mid sept. use will have really dropped.

    The BWCA Expo

Here are some photos of the expo. It was a great weekend, and the weather really cooperated. Time to start planning for next years. Getting this canoe on top of our sign was by far the hardest part of the expo. Some of the Vendors Boats at the beach Wilderness first aid...

Why and Where do you pole?

I don't want to sidetrack this thread, but here is our trip on the esnagami. Our camera died on the little current so I don't have any photos the esnagami. http://bearskinoutfitters.com/2016/09/15/the-ottertail-ogoki-kapikotongwa-little-current-and-esnagami-rivers/

Why and Where do you pole?

We polled up the bottom 10 or so miles of the Esnagami because it was either polling or walking! Being semi competent with a pole let us take a trip that otherwise would have been a fly-out.

    Length Matters

I bought some fancy floating rescue rope from NRS, about 25', and used it for a long time. Recently I've just used hardware store derby rope. It's probably not the strongest (although I think it's 5/8" so it's pretty substantial), but it floats, and has a nice soft feel. It is certainly much...

Looking for Wilderness River for Summer 2019

I've been spending too much time in the office recently, and keep looking at Reckett creek on Bing and trying to convince myself you could paddle it for long enough to get real close to the kap by Berger. Then you'd have a nice downstream on the Ogoki, uptsteam on the Kap near loop. What might...

Looking for Wilderness River for Summer 2019

You could do the trip Rob is suggestion, but then portage into the ottertail and paddle the Ogoki river to Ogoki or Kayden Lake, then fly out. The Ogoki only has two ports and no real whitewater, but lots of small swifts. I've been told flying is around $11 per mile in the area, and if you...

    Mail Order Paddle Length

Could you order them uncut with the grip not attached? Or maybe just order them long, I've shortened a Werner Bandit and it wasn't a huge deal.

    Materials for River Trips

I don't remember your phoenix looking particularly beat up. Just standard composite scratches. The bottom of that B17 looks like the bottom of a rental boat after a couple short BWCA trips! Quinn

    Materials for River Trips

The IXP boats aren't really ultralight boats (I mean this in a good way) A B17 in IXP is listed at 65lbs, and the Bell Alaskan in royalex was supposedly 72lbs. That's a lot of layers of cloth. Quinn
