Merlin II wood gunnel repair advice

How about a small forster bit to create a relief around the head, just don't drill too far, or you will damage the bit. Then seal the bottom of the hole, and fill the hole with thickened Expoxy and re-drill.

Blue Barrel Folding Tabletop Mark 1.5

I have used 6mm (1/4") 5 ply baltic birch plywood for a few projects, and am really happy how it preformed. It has no voids, good surface finish, and stays flat given the number of ply's. A 5' x 5' 6mm piece weights 22 pounds. They also make a 7 ply 9mm (3/8"), which assume would be half again...

    Intro from NW Indiana

It has been over 20 years; however, the Pigion River in the far northeast corner of the state used to offer a nice slow river paddle with camping opertuniities. At the time, there was at least one private camp ground and a SRA in the area. The river had a sieries of mill ponds and dams to...

    My first Build

Thanks, for the insight. Just wanted to make sure there was no practical reason to leave it long. As far as the stems, I am planning to cut the scrap on the bias to make strips.

    My first Build

No Title Progress photos from the last few weeks. Couple questions: 1- I placed the glass on an angle, which leaves a couple nice sized triangles at opposing sides on each end. Should this be trimmed prior to expoxy or after? 2- Can anyone give me an idea of how much epoxy it will take to do...

More work on the tripping truck

First i have seen this thread. Good read and would love to outfit a rig like that some day. However, every Tocoma I have looked at has a max 6' bed. Is everyone here vertically challenged? At 6'3" I would have a hard time stretching out to sleep in a 6' truck bed.

    Headlamps

I purchased a Trunite TH10 about a year ago, and been very happy. The only downside, it uses 2 CR123 battreries, which i purchased rechargeable one. I have used it on a mid level setting most of a day working in dirt locations with battery to spare. They also have a TH20 that is not quite as...

    My first Build

Thanks for the comments. As far as strip selection, we did not have much variation to choose from. As i am sure with most first builds, it has its moments. We should have taken a bit more time on the details; however, with anything of this nature, i will know where every dent, ding, and...

    Using Fiberglass as reinforcement

A recent thread was discussing a de-laminating seat frame. Now I realize there were other factors involved here; however, there has also been threads in the past year on broken seat frames and even carry thwarts, which was a concern on our big trip in 2015 due to the heavy hauls. As I am now...

    My first Build

The haul has been stripped since the first of January; however, the honey due list in anticipation for the baby has kept me busy elsewhere. With the child due any day, and some time off work to assist around the house, I hope to be able to get back to it. Trying to order Epoxy and glass today...

    Long Johns

Like Alan, I wear long johns most of the winter. My current favorites are made by Parodox, and purchased at costco for about $20 per top and bottom. They are a merino wool blend comprised of 84% polyester, 11% merino wool, and 5% spandex. They are a good fit, not being overly tight or loose...

    Pot to nestle Jet-boil stove?

Glad you like the pot. Look forward to hearing how it performs. What about placing the Jet Boil in upside down? Although I do not have one of the fuel canisters, or even seen one up close, i assume the bottom it somewhat recessed?? As far as the handle, there was someone over at Bushcraft...

    How many packs?

Not sure if this will help or not, but here is what we did on our last trip to the BWCA. We went in on a Monday morning and paddled out on Friday morning. We were 2 adult and 4 youth ranging in age from 9 to 15 years. Our gear was not ultralight or supper compact. We used a 60L barrel for...

    Canoe Soduku

What part of Indiana are you in? I am about 30 mile north of Indianapolis, and the Craig's list listings, are dismal at best. Been watching it off and on for about two years now looking for the fixer upper, worth putting s little time into. So far nothing. Bryan

    My first Build

Hopefully it is just an illusion due to the tape ( I did have some young help with it). The stems sit a heavy 1/8" below the station; however, it sounds line more may be better here and they are easy enough to remove and trim.
