    The joy of packing

Started about a week ago, one month out. Tote in house for food, bag in freezer, and making the wife mad with the dehydrator going all the time, and maybe not always getting the vacuum sealer put away. Updating the spread sheet and going through the maps again. To me it is all part of the...

Baker tent or Bill Mason Tent

I just received my CCS Lean 2+ this week and looking forward to putting it to use in May. I’m staying in my Warbonnet hammock but the boys will be using the lean. 50 oz. vs. 12 #’s for the Timberline 4 man outfitter.

    New Purchase - Day Pack

Another CCS Rucksack. Another CCS Rucksack. Had Dan Cooke build me a true "custom" rucksack. I wanted a sleeve on one side for my Wetterling 20H ax, and a sleeve for my Sven 15" saw, and a map pocket. I have my Warbonnet Blackbird 1.7 hammock, Superfly tarp, a 10x10 CCS Tundra Tarp, two...

    Notepad or journal for tripping

I'm another Rite in the Rain waterproof journal and a space pen. Normally just quick notes about the day so that I can write it out better when I get home. Works for me

    Water Filter

I have tried several of the Katadyn products and my home made system with a Sawyer filter and beats both of them hands down in the BWCA. This last year we filtered over 160L of water before I had to back flush it and it worked GREAT!

Now, just what is our relationship?

I'm willing to kick in some as well. I contribute to BWCA.com, Quite Journey (just started), and have also for Solo Tripping but who knows how long before its back up again. Should be kicking some into Hammock Forums as well. If you come up with something, let me know.

    Frustrated

I know how you feel except I did get one trip in with my son and son-in-law but had to cancel my solo trip because of work……….Guess a couple days trout fishing are going to have to take care of it for me.

    Solo Portage

It does really matter what time of you year that you go to the BWCA if you don’t want to see other people. Last year my son and I did 10 days starting on May 21, five of those days we did not see a sole. This year we did a week going in on May 26th and there was one day that we only saw 4...

    New Blackbird Hammock for me

Well I have to say that as long as you can find two trees space 12 -15 feet apart, hammock camping is the only way to go. The Warbonnet Blackbird, Superfly, and 20 degree Incubator underquilt worked GREAT! Super-fast setup and stayed warm and dry with the first four days raining and several...

    New Purchase - Day Pack

Well I made it up to Midwest Mountaineering Expo in the Twin Cities yesterday and picked myself up a new CCS Rucksack. Been needing a new day pack as the one that I have was my original Boy Scout pack that I think I must have gotten around 1973 or 74. It has been sewn up several times. Just...

    New Blackbird Hammock for me

Well I pulled the trigger and bought myself a Warbonnet Blackbird 1.7 double layer hammock and a Superfly. I have been interested in hammocks for a couple years now and with my upcoming solo this August I decided to take the plunge. So many neat things the people over at hammockforums.com do...

    Hiking as shuttle

Sent my son off last year to make about an 8 1/2 mile route back to get the truck after we had spent 10 days out. (from EP 16 back to EP 14 in BWCA) We double portage and after the first carry he went for the truck and I made two more trips. Got all the gear torn down and clothes changed just...

    Gas price

Not for me. Tank and a half - 750 miles round trip. I got that piggy bank on my dresser that all of my change goes into and I usually use that to pay for gas and chow on the way up. But I did drop $95 bucks in Monday for go go juice. $3.56 here in North Iowa. 10% ethanol running around...

    BWCA Permit

Re: BWCA Permit Yes sir, it's 372 miles to Ely from my house. One of my trips this year my son-in-law is going for his first trip. He likes fishing but he is unsure of all this camping stuff. All my daughter can say is don't let anything happen to my baby boy's father. My son just rolls his...

    BWCA Permit

Well got both of my permits for BWCA today. One for May and one for August. Got online this morning about 9:10 am, and done within five minutes. Got my confirmation email before 9:30 so I guess the new process went well for me. :)

    Warm winter=early paddling in spring?

Re: Warm winter=early paddling in spring? Well it was warm here in North Iowa and all the snow was gone but things have sure changed in the last ten days. May get some ice fishing in yet, but don't think my shack will be going out with me this year. Guess will have to wait and see about getting...
