    I have lived in Alaska for 42 years. A 20 mph wind is normal up here. I have camped with 40 mph winds gusting to 60 mph frequently. I have always used Eureka tents and they seem to hold together in the wind.

    If that happened in Alaska, we would be told to grab our guns in case the bear approached us. I have been told twice in the 42 years I have lived here to grab my gun because of a bear in the campground.

    I fear a moose attack more than a bear attack. I have been charged twice by moose. I have shared trails with a brown bear before. Wolves generally keep their distance, although a few years ago, a wolf kept a woman in an outhouse for 6-8 hours.

    You might consider getting a splash cover. I bought one from Red Leaf Designs. The splash covers helps miitgate the wind and with any waves that may splash over.

    I use a removable portage yoke. I have 2 portage yokes. One is homemade using plans from Cliff Jacobson’s books for my Old Town Discovery 119 and the other is a CVCA portage yoke for my Wenonah Wilderness.

    I have industrial grade self adhesive velco that I attach to the air tanks in the bow & stern of the canoe. I the use a piece of double sided velcro the wrap around the coiled painter line and then attach that to the velcro on the air tanks.

    I do not like sporks. They don’t work well as a fork or a spoon. I think sporks was the solution to a problem that never existed.
