    RedLeaf Designs kudos!

I use one of their covers on my 40 year old J-180 so maybe one day decades from now someone else can enjoy it!

Best canoe dog for wolf protection

A shotgun would take up less space in your canoe and not require food.

Why am I the only one in a Canoe?

One of these days, I am going to be tempted into paddling my race canoe with a kayak wing paddle!

Why am I the only one in a Canoe?

For most of my life a canoe was always 16' plus tandem that required technique and a partner to manage effectively, especially in the wind. Then came along the rotomolded kayaks including SOT'S that were more affordable, often with a foot controlled rudder and were not wind catchers like an open...

    Mini Campers

I have observed Haughton air conditioners installed and they are insanely quiet and a frequent upgrade in some camping circles.

    Mini Campers

Not mini, but not large either are the Escape 17 and 19. We were fortunate enough to find one used several years ago before price increases and tariffs. They are nice to use and tow very well, available in different configurations with a slew of options and customizations.

    Photo of the day

I don't think I would have the confidence to trim seat bolts on that canoe without removing them first!

Canoe cover for epoxy canoe with no gelcoat?

Glenn, just to put things into my perspective, I recently bought a new cover for a boat I only paid 500 bucks for, but I still feel as though it was a worthy investment. I didn't get the upgraded fabric, but if my boat stayed on my vehicle for days or weeks at a time I think the upgraded fabric...

Canoe cover for epoxy canoe with no gelcoat?

I would absolutely order a cover from Red Leaf if you are leaving it on your car for extended periods. I do not find that 303 or other products hold up that long and the cover offers some additional protection from flying objects. Also, that is a extremely flashy canoe and a cover may just keep...

Looking for advice on current Swift layups

Although not specifically about the layups, I can offer the following insight. I love the look of wood, but I also prefer the carbon thwarts, handles etc. because I do not like the necessary fastener hardware above the gunwales on the wood thwart configuration. If I were to order a new boat I...

    Bird Management

When wrens build nests in my endcaps it just means I am not paddling enough. Seriously though, maybe try some rubber snakes??

Tractor Seat + nylon pants = PIA

Please keep us updated with your impression of this seat, it looks like it could be a good upgrade for my J-180.

Coating the interior: Epoxy or Varnish?

yes the kevlar innegra is also coarse inside, it concerned me a little at first but the yoga mat eliminates that and also gives me peace of mind if I drop a sharp object!

Coating the interior: Epoxy or Varnish?

On my Keewaydin15, I use a thin piece of yoga mat on the floor for some cushion and the ability to collect dirt. The mat is large enough to go from under my feet at the footbraces to under my seat. An added benefit is that it cushions and dampens the sound from moving things when I fish. if you...

    Canoeing Plans for 2026?

Paddled Bayou Dorcheat in N Louisiana today launched at Neelys landing and explored 2 miles upstream and 2 miles down. The water was low and became impassable each direction.
