    BWCA late June 2026

Great pictures and great report! My guess is Yellowstone Solo.

    Can’t Catch A Break

I recognize the hurt that comes with getting beat down multiple times. I am not offering the following as a dismissal of that feeling, but I would shift focus to northern New England. Maine, in particular. I don't know your exact location, but central Maine is an hour closer to Cambridge, OH...

    RedLeaf Designs kudos!

I've yet to wish the large was smaller. The compression straps make it about as svelte as you want, and then you still have the ability to balloon it out for bigger gear. Keep in mind that my experience is with solos, a tight bow station in a C-2 might be cause for consideration of the smaller unit.

    RedLeaf Designs kudos!

The Vores seem like genuinely great people. I dont have a cover, but I really like their gunwale bags. https://redleafdesigns.com/products/gunwale-bag?variant=45693540008088

    Puffer Tents

22lbs, Chinese 40d TPU, $650? Not for me, but an interesting product. Inflatable floor is asking for trouble, given my luck with sleeping pads. But hey, this how innovation happens. Thanks for sharing!

Three dead, one saved, in another low head dam tragedy

The videographer called it correctly at 00:24 of the boat flip video: "If they go down there, they aren't coming back up" Like Glenn said, the river looks like it has 3-4' of upstream back slope in extremely aerated water. That boat had already low odds of coming back over that hump. Looks...

    Poll: Rudders

Hilariously, the WPASCR this June is where I paddled the Savage River Falcon and got my first exposure to a ruddered craft.

    tent cleaning and treatment

Sticky from forest detritus or sticky because the waterproofing is breaking down? I've had to toss two tents due to the latter. One was warrantied by Nemo, great company, one was a write off.

    Poll: Rudders

Last month, I paddled a canoe with a rudder for the first time. It was nice in one way and a little soulless in another. Kind of like double vs. single blade, or maybe corrective stroke paddling vs. hit and switch. It was interesting to just be more of a motor than constantly adjusting some...

Cannibalism is Bad for Your Health

@recped 's chicken will live on forever. Which, incidentally, is only one day longer than he is willing to store it for consumption.

Not as bad as it is for other people's health.

Driving with your canoe on the car all summer long

Haha, so true! Add in terrible starting aero and it gets even closer. For example: 1994 Chevy G20: 14.8 slick, 14.3 with two tandems on top over a 700 mile test, varied conditions.

    Old Canoe

What condition? Motor included? Recently restored? Estimates for top condition, period-correct motor included, collector interest level: $1800-$2500 Average condition, no motor, no collector interest: same as most other old fiberglass canoes. $300-$600

refurbish a carbon composite C4 canoe

@yknpdlr I assume the preferred method would be application via HVLP spray gun, like an automotive clearcoat over paint. You can get a quote from your local autobody shop. You can also DIY the project via harbor freight tooling or rattle cans. A C4 will take a LOT of cans. A Harbor Freight air...
