    Your Favorite Streamside/Lakeside Campsite

Too many to list them all. Here are three. 1. Ledges on the Allagash. The trick is to climb to the top of the hill where you’ll find a beautiful tent pad covered in soft pine needles. There are just enough trees to break a strong wind while also affording a view of the lake. 2. The island...

West Branch of the Penobscot/Lobster Lake

Just missed you. I’m just back from a trip that combined the Allagash Loop (cheat start at Umbazooksus) and the Allagash River. Yes, we had some cold nights with a hard frost in the morning. I’ll post a trip report soon, but will only have a few photos.

For sale new/unused: one of the last SRT’s made by Dave Curtis

I have a white Hemlock SRT in premium layup for sale, purchased when it looked like Hemlock was going out of business. This has never seen water. I own another SRT that I love, so no need for this one now that I know Hemlock will continue building canoes under new owners. Price is $3,500. If...

I would attend. I can’t take the lead in planning at this time but would be happy to help.

3-4 weeks next summer: where to go?

Settled on a trip. I’m going to start the Allagash Loop, with a detour to circumnavigate Chesuncook. Then, where Allagash Stream spills into Chamberlain, I’ll turn into the Allagash River and continue on to the end. Thought about Boundary Waters and Wabakimi but I like the idea of a long trip...

    Burning plastic

As responses slow down, I want to thank everyone for offering such thoughtful and considered responses. It has been useful to read so many perspectives and reconsider my own. While there have been many different opinions and practices presented, including some that contradict my own, I would be...

Shaw & Tenney bags and packs

I’m hoping it’s OK to boast a little about my new partnership with Shaw & Tenney. We’ve been developing a line of bags over the past year and now have those up on the S&T website. I’ve made bags for a few members here and just thought folks might find it interesting to know that a forum member...

Memaquay, thanks for everything you do. We each do our part, big and small. Each effort is necessary and makes difference.

    Burning plastic

I’m one of those who generally enjoys watching Kevin Callan tripping videos. I watched one video this past fall when he said he knows that burning plastic is bad for his health and the environment but he was going to do it anyway because it had wrapped meat and he was too tired to make it bear...

    Wabakimi info

Awesome info. Would you be able to share contact info for Clem, Don and the First Nation shuttle guy? Maybe message me if you don’t want to share publicly. Thanks so much.

    Wabakimi info

I will have all of next summer free and have a wild dream of circumnavigating Wabakimi. This would be a solo trip. Is this even possible? Does anyone with Wabakimi experience have any idea how long this might take? Like I said, it’s a wild dream and I haven’t yet started to plan this trip...

    Anyone Use This Type Shelter?

I slept in a similar shelter for a seven night river trip two years back. The nylon tab that receives the cross pole on my bridge hammock broke while setting it up, and I was forced to seek shelter in my Eureka bug shelter for the rest of the trip. It rained several nights, and the wind blew a...

3-4 weeks next summer: where to go?

This would be a solo trip. Lakes and/or rivers (but definitely not The BWCA). I’d paddle up to Class II rivers and portage everything above that. I don’t have any other constraints so am open to all suggestions. What have you got?

3-4 weeks next summer: where to go?

I’m looking for suggestions for a three to four week paddle next summer. I live in New England and would prefer to keep my driving time to four days or less one way.
