    Potentially promising canoe boots

Anyone with experience with Simms? Looking at their Flyweight Boot. As I've noted I wet foot. https://www.simmsfishing.com/products/ms-flyweight-boot-vibram?variant=45260164038846 I may settle for Keen Arroyo II. ps I see Alan suggested these. Doh! on me.

    Wisconsin River

Some years ago we - Scout group - put in at Muscoda. There's a village park that allows camping right by landing. Outfitter from Boscobel came with canoes. 3 nights. We'd hope to get to Wyalusing but had some difficulty so we were picked up at Bridgeport for shuttle back. Nice trip. Attended a...

Just wasn't my experience with Chota. Lots of mesh. Smart wool socks. Wet feet from morning to late afternoon - 10 or more portages. April to November.

    Potentially promising canoe boots

Me too to mesh for canoeing. I want shoes that drain and along with merino wool socks, keep drop and sand out. I loved my Chota Candy forks but after 20 years they wore out and apparently Chota stopped making water shoes. It's not like backpacking and crossing a stream, for which I prefer my...

BWCAW: Best campground for basecamp paddling?

Traditional BWCA experience would lead me to a Beaverhouse entrance in the Q. Stay on Beaverhouse or one fairly easy portgage to Question Lake and there is so much and varied to see: pictos, burn areas, little bays, etc. Not really small water but easy to stay near leeward shore and bays. My...

BWCAW: Best campground for basecamp paddling?

I second geoboy's recommendation and would offer staying at their base on Moose Lake would be my choice if I were not able to portage BUT Moose is not small and there is some motor traffic. You can paddle quite a ways up Birch which has no borders. No experience but Kawishiwi Camp ground is...

His email last night pushes selling inventory and notes he is looking for a buyer. Several prospects it seems, but no deal yet.

    Canoecopia 2026

Yes indeed. But Canoecopia is after all the Rutabaga store relocated for 3 days to the Alliant Energy Center, so sort of inseparable.

    Canoecopia 2026

Made my hotel reservations. Will look at air before long but not always less in advance any more, plus drive and train are not off the table. It's a great event if you've never been. this will be like no 20 for me. March 13-15, Madison WI.

Rutabaga Paddlesports in Madison, Wisconsin, is Closing (NO - Staying Open)

I thought his comments about millennials were they don't have the capital. Just like so many fewer people can buy a house today, much harder for people to buy a business. Even Darren started small and grew. Where is a millennial going to get the millions to buy it?

Rutabaga Paddlesports in Madison, Wisconsin, is Closing (NO - Staying Open)

I've attend Canoecopia for about 20 years, was just wondering if I'll go this year. Darren has built a great event. I guess I should do one more. His comment about millennials and obviously baby boomers is interesting and a little sad.

    Self Inflating Pads

The megamat seems like the current version of my exped DLX9. 20+ years and still doing fine. Great for winter. No snow melt at all under me. And very comfortable. Just too heavy and bulky for backpacking.

    Self Inflating Pads

I'm hooked on my Exped pads. Both inflate with their schnozzle - and air bag. Plus lifetime guarantee, no questions asked.

Is this route doable for a novice solo paddler?

I figure 10 to 12 miles a day in BWCA and Q, and just did 60 mi in less than 5 days in Adirondacks, and I'm 73. Souris River Tranquility - 14'-6". I think you're good but I don't know Temagami.
