Removing registration stickers without damaging the finish.

I live in PA. I purchase the boat launch permit every year, I certainly don't mind supporting everything it gives me access to. But I refuse to put the sticker on my canoe for this exact reason. I've gotten stopped once at a boat launch and once I pulled out the permit they didn't give me any...

A New Seat for the Canoe

I should give even more specific context. My wife is paddling an Eddyline Sitka ST, which is I guess considered a light touring kayak. It's 13'9" with a svelte 22.5" beam. So it's not a 16'+ sea kayak, but it does move. Perhaps that will make it easier to keep up with? Anyways, she has no...

A New Seat for the Canoe

Thanks Glen. As I've learning more about hull shape over the past few years I've certainly come to the realization that the Trillium won't do everything I want to and I'll need another canoe at some point. But I'm keeping the Trillium regardless, there are some local rivers that it is still...

A New Seat for the Canoe

I got out again. The weather was beautiful but they were calling for 10-15 mph winds. I was sitting on my back porch and there wasn’t even a hint of a breeze, so I talked everyone into joining me for a paddle. (I was lying to myself, I knew what would happen when we got to the lake.) Boy was it...

A New Seat for the Canoe

It's all good, I just wanted to clarify. My response may have been more pedantic than I meant. I missed your incorrect paddle length, but when I was shopping for paddles I made sure to calculate the shaft length vs. overall length on all of them. (I made a spreadsheet, do you recall our shared...

    Canoe Rack for Carport

To add to snapper’s suggestion, my friend bought a pre made rack, it uses i-hooks and bungie cords to secure the boats into place.

A New Seat for the Canoe

230 lbs! I'm gonna need a bigger ballast bag to get 80 lbs of water. I will definitely experiment more. I've found even 15-20 lbs makes a huge difference with the wind, I'm a sail without it. But you've encouraged me to try even more weight, thank you. Thanks! I would not classify my paddling...

A New Seat for the Canoe

When I got my Trillium I ordered it with a pack seat. I was coming from kayaking and it seemed like a good idea at the time. And perhaps it was. But I never really loved it with a pack seat, so over this past winter I got a standard seat put in with seated drops. I’ve been waiting very...

    Obsolete Stuff

Scouter thank you for your enthusiasm. I will certainly get some more pics for you when I get back over there this weekend. Assuming I don't space out and forget.

    Obsolete Stuff

My father in law passed recently so we're in the process of sorting through his stuff. He was an engineer from way back, and learned how to program computers with punch cards. We found this stashed away, it's in pristine shape. I'm not sure what we're going to do with it, I can't imagine getting...

    Strength training for canoeing

I’m approaching 46, and I am fortunate in that I have been actively working to improve my diet and exercise over the past decade. My weight/health have always been good, but I had concerns about cardio strength. Regular daily walks around flat suburbia are certainly not as beneficial as the more...

    Blacklite hd

I'm on the east coast so I'm not familiar with Michigan paddling, but from what you've described I would be comfortable taking my Blacklite Trillium on a paddle there. However, it sounds like you're not comfortable with the foam core, so if 5 lbs is worth it to you for the peace of mind then...

    Blacklite hd

The general consensus here seems to be that the regular Blacklite is more durable than its weight would imply. I've bounced my BL Trillium off a few rocks and it's held up fine. However, if I got a dedicated river canoe such as the Phoenix I would probably splurge for the BL HD just for peace of...

    Installed Footbrace on P15

Thanks. That looks exactly like the set up I should have gotten on my current car, and thanks to all your posts it will be on the next. My wife also prefers her kayak, and in all fairness it's very fun to paddle. I'm going to try to sell her on canoes this summer, we'll see how that goes.

    Installed Footbrace on P15

Sorry to derail the conversation a little, but is your roof rack set up for a canoe and a kayak? It looks like there's a foldable j-style rack on the right?

    New Swift Cirrus 14.6

Looks like winter is still being stubborn up there, good luck. Certainly a beautiful canoe, and sounds like it will be an enjoyable paddle.

Opinions on a new boat - Rapidfire, Spitfire 13, Trillium

I love my Trillium, and since you’ve already said speed isn’t your top priority I would certainly recommend it. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a quick little canoe but definitely doesn’t have the same glide at faster speeds as say the Magic. I’m 145 lbs, and I find on windy days I have to add a...

    Getting in and Getting out

This is what I do as well. But I'm 6ft with a fairly narrow canoe, so I'm not certain that would work for everyone.

    Hello from Central WI.

Welcome. There's a lot of knowledgeable folk here. I'm not one of them, but if you post about your build I'll certainly read it.

    Nor'easter Snow Blast, Feb. 22-23, 2026

According to the map we got about 9 inches, which sounds about right. Looks like I was just outside of the worst of the accumulation. They got about 14" in the town I work, so driving into that Monday morning was an adventure.
