Ready for a road trip. My wife loves her kayak, efforts to convert her have been met with a tepid response. The canoe is mine, a Northstar Trillium.

I have a 250 cm and it works well enough, but I do think a 260 cm would be better. However, I haven’t used the double blade much this season and I haven’t tried a longer paddle.

Thanks for the thorough review. That makes me lean towards your choice. Just my wife and I, no kids, and a strong preference for camping when it isn't hot out are all points in favor of the Base Camp. But I'm not buying a tent this season, so I've got time to figure it out.

Glen can you share what features made you pick the Base Camp over the Westward? I like the specs of both of them and would not mind a tent I can stand it. (Or at least get close, I’m 6’ tall.)

Steve this is what I assume the author means when he says “growing pains,” which implies that he believes it will get better with more time/education. At the risk of being cynical, that’s more faith than I have in the type of people in your example.

It does not, though I would not say it’s flush against the hull. I just put it away, if I have it out this weekend I can take some pics for you.

I use my Northstar Trillium with the 4” seated drops and kayak foot braces. I find it to be a comfortable set up. Of course specs/numbers don’t tell the whole story, but our respective canoes are similar in width.

I have a few of the Suspenz Paddle Rack similar to what Alan shared. They have rubber wrapping that holds the paddles in place and I found them to be worth the small extra expense.
