How accurate do you find Paddle Planner?

It interesting what attributes of a camp site are valued and which not. I'm a wet footer and don't mind getting out in knee deep water April to November, so rarely look at landings. I do highly value level tent pads however. I realize and accept others have different priorities. People who...

How accurate do you find Paddle Planner?

I tend to think of the paddle speed as an average speed. It's also sort of an approximation. I'd never rely on any paddle planning to be someplace at 3:35 on the dot. It's more knowing I'll usually be on the water by 8:00 and want to make camp by 2:00 or 3:00 but so what if Im early or late?

How accurate do you find Paddle Planner?

I used past trips to reverse engineer my paddling, portaging, and loading speeds, so I find it a good indicator. I also don't plan my routes or stick to them if I do, making next days plans each evening.

Yeah, I'm not paddling below the Madon Dixon line.

Reversing long running threads so newest posts are visible?

When I open a thread, it immediately goes to the first unread post by me, whether first page or page 27. I find this to work great. I click "new posts", read the ones I want to, and then click "mark forums read". What could be better?

What U.S. or Canadian documentation do you need to cross into the other country and back?

You're saying that the NY enhanced DL is going away or won't be accepted much longer?

Best Places to Live in the US for Canoeing?

Reading this post and rereading first post points me to north central or north eastern Pennsylvania. Close to WV, half day to a day to Adirondacks, a days drive to Maine, and lots of outdoors. Mostly river opportunities. Isolated lakes. Have never lived there but family home back to early 1800s...

Best Places to Live in the US for Canoeing?

I guess it depends on preference for wilderness but you can paddle for many weeks probably a couple of months, in the BWCAW and Quetico PP and never see or hear signs of civilization - no roads, buildings, low flying airplanes, etc. Plus so many directions to go with such short portages by and...

Best Places to Live in the US for Canoeing?

You could do a lot worse than Ely MN, but would be fine for me.

    Which Subaru?

My Outback is 6.9 and tolerable but liked my RAV4 at 6.2 better. For me it has to do with passing cars going 10 mph below speed limit in twisty Adirondack roads.

    Which Subaru?

0 to 60 in the Sienna is 7.9 seconds and in the Ascent it's 6.8 seconds. Both without canoe on roof.

Are there any other states that provide a 'Lake Finder?'

googling "NYS Lake finder" does provide guides, though they seem to be fishing oriented, not broader uses like MN.

What U.S. or Canadian documentation do you need to cross into the other country and back?

We live very near CA border in upstate NY, cross border frequently. Enhanced DL works both ways. It was very easy to obtain. Show a SS card or W2 with SSN, a bank statement or utility bill, and just $30 extra. Very easy. I'm This from NY DMV web site: "An Enhanced license (permit, or...

Grade A boat or a second?

Even Souris River, not known for aesthetics, would discount significantly for a blemish like described.

Agree with snapper. It's a "blem". Ask for a replacement.

    Oswegatchie Questions

Nice and instructive report Chip. I'm interested in what areas in Adirondacks if any you find more "wilderness" like. Most of my paddling is split between BWCAW and Quetico PP, both much more wilderness like than anything I've found in Adirondacks.
