Traditional BWCA experience would lead me to a Beaverhouse entrance in the Q. Stay on Beaverhouse or one fairly easy portgage to Question Lake and there is so much and varied to see: pictos, burn areas, little bays, etc. Not really small water but easy to stay near leeward shore and bays. My...
I second geoboy's recommendation and would offer staying at their base on Moose Lake would be my choice if I were not able to portage BUT Moose is not small and there is some motor traffic. You can paddle quite a ways up Birch which has no borders.
No experience but Kawishiwi Camp ground is...
Made my hotel reservations. Will look at air before long but not always less in advance any more, plus drive and train are not off the table. It's a great event if you've never been. this will be like no 20 for me.
March 13-15, Madison WI.
I thought his comments about millennials were they don't have the capital. Just like so many fewer people can buy a house today, much harder for people to buy a business. Even Darren started small and grew. Where is a millennial going to get the millions to buy it?
I've attend Canoecopia for about 20 years, was just wondering if I'll go this year. Darren has built a great event. I guess I should do one more.
His comment about millennials and obviously baby boomers is interesting and a little sad.
The megamat seems like the current version of my exped DLX9. 20+ years and still doing fine. Great for winter. No snow melt at all under me. And very comfortable. Just too heavy and bulky for backpacking.
I figure 10 to 12 miles a day in BWCA and Q, and just did 60 mi in less than 5 days in Adirondacks, and I'm 73. Souris River Tranquility - 14'-6". I think you're good but I don't know Temagami.
This may be a better description of what I do to board Tranquility. Right foot in center of boat with left in water. Aim my butt for seat and lift left foot and let it drain before swinging it in.
I use some of techniques above but find I like knee deep water. That's with Tranquility.
You said Swift Prospector 14. I have same in pack version - was not sure if yours was pack. The Hornbeck video on entering and exiting their pack canoes might be helpful...
To like camp cooking, it has to be for pride and pleasing others with above average fare. I take ingredients and plan meals in the woods. I love baking and a lot more than boiling water.
I respect spending time cooking and baking in camp is not everyone's cup of tea. Just as I like and look...
Just saw this. Not sure an apocalypse today would be survivable anywhere but I feel a little better being a mile portage to St Lawrence or 10 mile drive bridge to Canada.
