    W/C keel removal

I'm looking for the direction of all our w/c experts here. I have a 1922 OT Charles River that was restored about 10 years ago (before I owned it). They did a great job, but installed a "lake keel" as spesified on the original build sheet. Two questions: 1. Is it a no no to remove it if it...

    800th member today

Robin, I don't chime in a lot, but this forum is the first thing I visit each morning! Thanks to everyone that gives so freely!

    Long Johns

I'll second dogbrain both in how he wears his long underwear and his preferred brand. I have worn Patagonia long underwear for 25 years. Everything from tele skiing to mountaineering to winter hunting to fly fishing. If I'm not going to be moving I'll use their R1 fleece as a base layer. I...

    The Canoe

I had a monumentally crappy day, this and a good IPA just made it better!

    Stolen Vertige X

I hate thieves and cheaters! Its great to hear you got the boat back. Im still waiting for the Ohio police to recover seven fly rods out of my car in 1997, hope springs eternal!

    Getting my throat slit

No advise for rehab, but glad it went well and your home. I will continue to pray for a complete and speedy recovery!

Absolutely amazing, my son and I just watched it together.

    WTB cold handle frying pan

I have 3 different sizes of Acme pans that were my grandfathers, the largest is probably 10". They get used on a regular basis, there's nothing like fried eggs in a cold handle. I use them and think about how many deer hunts he took them on! I see Acme ones on eBay all the time. I don't...

    2016 Northstar Polaris

I know this thread is a little old, but...I'm considering a Polaris as a dedicated solo. I'm a bigger guy (6'7", 290#) and looking for a new tripping boat. How big are you, and how does it paddle from the solo position? Thanks!

    Bear Lines

Where do you routinely go? Many areas up here in the north east now require a bear proof container, most of which you don't hang.

Hot Tent Sleeping with a Cot or on the Ground?

I have done both. As I get older, when I can, my knees prefer a cot. Either way you will need to insulate under you. In a hot tent I use the same ground insulation weather I'm on a cot or not.

    Feathered Friends...

Great stuff. In my younger days I was a mountaineering guide, I lived and slept in Feathered Friends. I still have several sleeping bags, some of them 15+ years old. Good down, if properly cared for, is a long term investment!

    Wedding chariot

I hope these pictures come thru. I don't often, in my opinion, see jeeps much cooler than my 1975 J20, but your Willys takes the prize! I'm not proud that I'm jealous!

Milling planking for a W/C canoe

The sled does two things, my planner doesn't like to go that thin with stock directly on the table, so the 3/4" mdf sled gets really thin stock up a little. Also if there is any inconsistency in the stock (and the stock is too thin to safely get over the jointer) a couple of long beads of hot...

Milling planking for a W/C canoe

I can start with any size lumber I can get my hands on. I'll run it over the joiner a couple of times to surface 1 face and 1 edge, rip to desired width on the table saw, then use my band saw with a 1/2" skip tooth blade and a shop made single point resaw fence to cut to a desired thickness...

Milling planking for a W/C canoe

I use a bandsaw with a resaw fence, then a MDF carrier thru my planer.

    Places that "grab you"

The northern Adirondacks in general. I guided up there in my younger days, and have been introducing my son to the Adks since he could walk. I don't know what it is up there. I have been to Alaska, Nepal/Tibet, South America, and lots of other places, but I return to the Adks time and time...

    Potable frozen water containers?

I have a hipster friend that drinks a bottled water called "Fiji Water". The bottles are square, and heavy duty. He saves them for me just for that purpose.
