I have a shepherd’s hook that works well for that and grabbing branches and as a seated pole for pushing on the bottom. It probably wouldn’t work well on ice though.

I bet that ‘eye was a good fight on that glass rod.

Now that I have returned to the north I’ll have to keep my eyes open for an ice hook. I remember some dicey moments crossing ice when my pole or paddle slipped and things moved a bit too quickly. I’m to slow for that now, but a controlled pull sounds good.

Thanks for the report. Sounds like the canoeing and camping were less than ideal, but the panfishing sounded like it was fun. It’s been a while since I had a day where I got tired of catching.

The hammock is worth a try. It’s wonderful for my bad back, and it’s easy to set up and lightweight. It takes a lot for me to get comfortable on the ground or in bed. I did one Isle Royale trip with a tent. Maybe 10 more weeks there with the hammock and years up and down the east coast working...

Hennessy hammock is fine for side sleeping. I’m not sure stomach sleeping would be possible.
