    Canoe Makeover

My Roka is my go to paddle, I even like it better than my ZRE.. I want to get a bent shaft Roka as well. The slotted gunnels arre my fav for which you mention plus it is easy to lash things to as well.

    Canoe Makeover

Hi Glenn, Personally I prefer wood over aluminum but that is just me. I had no choice when buying the boat so I took what I could get. That is a Foxworx 54" Roka that I purchased directly from Foxworx Paddles. That kneeling pad is 1" thick minicell foam from Hemlock Canoe. Dave Curtis cut me a...

    Canoe Makeover

Back in 2021 I called an outfitter in the Adirondacks of New York wondering if they had any used Northstar "Northwind Solos". They said no but they had one brand new one in starlite layup with aluminum trim on order if I was interested. This was during "COVID" and finding a boat was difficult so...

The History of the Curtis Dragonfly and Shouldered Tumblehome

I've chatted with Dave many times on this subject and amongst others. Back in June at the WPASCR I paddled all three Dragonflies Curtis, Colden and Swift. I absolutely fell in love with the boat and now have a 2023 Swift Dragonfly.

    Canoe Quiver Revamp

Thank you! We are very fortunate here in the east to have a selection of canoe builders/manufacturers. That Placid I have "Shadow" is 16' and weighs 23#. It is insanely light and fast.

    Canoe Quiver Revamp

Dave Curtis still builds amazing boats. I have a Hemlock Eaglet that weighs 38# not as light as my NW Solo but a great boat no matter how you slice it. A friend of mine just bought another LB in kevlar I believe recently for his daughter.

    GRB Canoe question

I have the high seat in mine and find it very easy to paddle single blade, however I do agree with Joe on the hung seat. What about having Joe build the boat with out the seat? GRB sells their sliding seat in all carbon and I believe will custom make the base height to the paddlers preference...

    Canoe Quiver Revamp

I've been revamping my canoe quiver to reflect more of the paddling I like to do and interested in doing rather than buying just to buy. In early September I took delivery of my new Swift Dragonfly and this weekend a Placid Boat Works Shadow. Paddling my Dragonfly in expedition kevlar with the...

Pricing on a used Solo Merlin II or Hemlock Peregrine

Hi Fred, IMPO Hemlock Canoes are some of the best. In September 2020 I picked up a Peregrine in the premium+ layup and absolutely loved the boat. I had both sitting & kneeling drops. Over time I discovered it was easier to kneel in an Eaglet with the added depth as I have size 13 feet (Easier...
