Info on Chivelston, Harris & Harold Lakes outside Wabakimi?

Aslowhand, thanks for the input. I've been anticipating this trip for a while now, which is why I'd rather take time without pay than delay it for another year (or more). As for questioning the route: No worries and certainly no offense taken. I've considered staying on the river until it hits...

Info on Chivelston, Harris & Harold Lakes outside Wabakimi?

It’s been awhile since I’ve updated this thread but I haven’t abandoned the project. In fact, quite the opposite and I believe that I’ve got my maps ready. If anyone is interested, here’s what I came up with: I carry an inReach and can mark waypoints, etc on it from a computer, my smartphone...

    Winter projects

Not to continue thread drift (who...ME?) but you may be able to "mark" it using a laser level. I've done it on the last 2 builds & it seems to work well.

    Budget Permethrin

I think my Tractor Supply is already responding to the demand caused by this thread and the natural tendency for CTN readers to part with cash. I was in last night for some bolts and checked the livestock sprays... Same bottle ykn shows above is $26.99 (USD) Still budget-friendly compared to...

    Thoughts on the Dragonfly 15

I like that yoke attachment. Not being attached to either me or the boat, I'd probably lose it on a trip but I like it.

    Thoughts on the Dragonfly 15

LOL, Thanks. I suppose I should have guessed that... now it makes more sense. 🤷‍♂️

    Thoughts on the Dragonfly 15

OK, probably unusual for me but I'm not trying to be funny (this time) and I've never actually seen one, let alone seen one being used... Am I to understand that "kneeling thwart" is actually just a seat that you rest your butt against when you're kneeling? (I've never felt the need to rest...

    Thoughts on the Dragonfly 15

Maybe a dumb question but wouldn't kneeling on that raise the COG considerably? I kneel in C2, serious chop and other times that it may facilitate prayer but I've always knelt on the floor. How does the thwart work?

    Canoeing Plans for 2026?

I'll hope that plans are merely delayed, that treatment & recovery go well and this is merely a bump in the road. Yesterday my BIL started radiation & chemo for a brain tumor they removed just after Christmas. Absolutely amazing what can be done these days... Lets hope they can slow...

    Thwart Material

I'll agree with both of the above and would use whatever I find aesthetically pleasing and affordable. As mem points out, it's not structural. My only other consideration (since you mention tripping) might be weight but I'm not sure if you'd be planning to portage your utility station / thwart...

    Alan's Bloodvein II

Now that I've started some strips with that perfect edge, I'll agree that using a joiner is a great idea. I think it would allow me to slice up the entire 14 inch board without the edge becoming too wavy, and it makes it unnecessary to discard the first strip. As for thickness planing; I don't...

    A canoe with external thrusters

They're termed "square stern" around here and @memaquay has built at least one that he powers with an outboard motor. As for flipping it: Higher speeds increase the risk of overturning on any type of boat but I have no idea how to minimize the risk except to keep speed within your risk...

    Alan's Bloodvein II

I know I told mem that I'd get crackin' on this build this weekend but I've hit another snag with the plans. I misunderstood the scale and had them printed about 80% of the actual size. This might leave me with an Olympic Sprint boat (if I leave station spacing at 12 inches) but I doubt that...

Trouble Closing a Seal Line Map Case

Oh boy... Once more, CTN excels at separating me from loose change... Maybe I can offset the $50 cost by not printing maps on waterproof paper but that seems like it puts an unwise amount of faith in the case remaining waterproof.

Safest places to canoe in the USA after a nuclear war

I got your back mem... I'll get back to my next build this weekend (not an outdoor adventure but it's a distraction).

    plain hamburger

I'll mail you a couple of Dollar General bags. I'm pretty sure they're actually seeds, and that's how the invasive stores are spreading. Sure seems like you'll see a yellow, plastic DG bag along the road somewhere and, next thing ya know, a store pops up.

Safest places to canoe in the USA after a nuclear war

Well, be safe out there but I won't have to worry about it because it appears that my house is a civilian target. I'm not certain why anyone would wanna nuke me but I guess there could be worse ways to go and they may have their reasons...

Great Lakes ice coverage - Winter 2026
