A loss for paddlers everywhere. RIP Dan.

    Dump cakes

I've found one - 2 cans beaches, 1 yellow cake, 1 can soda, 1 stick of butter. Seems safe. I'm guessing the ones with soda are more fruit crumble or crisp than cake.

    Dump cakes

Thanks. One of our troops adults was a fabulous cook - the best. We always looked forward to the weekends he was on. Made a dump cake with ginger ale and fruit cocktail - the vile stuff our mom's - mine at least - put in jello for church suppers. The dump cake with fruit cocktail was just...

    Dump cakes

Going on (2) NFCT work weekends and took dump cake ingredients last year. I've always made dump cake with 1 large can of pie filling, 1 box cake mix, and a stick of butter. Just checking online recipies and finding variations to include 1 or 2 cans of filling, 3 to 12 tablespoons of butter...

What do you use for a table?

Piece of heavy poly. My "chair" is just a pad. I do "cook" with different ingredients and prep.

New cars: are they as impossible as they seem for cartopping?

And if men were meant to fly they'd have wings.

New cars: are they as impossible as they seem for cartopping?

Interesting. I checked my 2018 Outback this morning. Lane warning and centering was off on startup. (It had been on before I parked.) I turned adaptive cruise control and the lane stuff came on. I touched the button below it and turned off lane centering, without affecting cruise control. I...

    If I’m hauling there’s weather.

I apologize for raising the issue. I looked as close as I can and just went back and still can't see them but believe you. Don't know why it wobbles. Just haven't experienced that.

    If I’m hauling there’s weather.

No seen or bow tie downs? I've been through some good winds but haven't had movement like you describe. Cam straps pulled very tight.

Detachable Yoke for Swift Carbon Gunnels

I het he'd like to sell you that carbon yoke US $700! (Today) Their cherry wood version is "only" US $200. I bought a used Swift that came with that yoke and afterwards the seller admitted they erred on the price. It was an early one, with clamps, before threaded inserts in the gunwales...

The Floating Method for Protecting Food from Bears (???)

Agree. Never in BWCAW or Quetico. I would consider in some Adirondack routes.

Detachable Yoke for Swift Carbon Gunnels

Use an eye-bolt and washer. 1/4 -20 eyebolts should be found almost any hardware or big box, in stainless even. And unlike some plastic handles, it will never break.

The Floating Method for Protecting Food from Bears (???)

So many coolers are IGBC certified it's surprising they aren't used more often.

    Questions on Kevlar canoe repair

I think sanding and coating would be fine for that. I only have skin Kevlar so just sand and spar, but I suspect yours require a different coating.

    Swapped My River Banger

I have the pack version and like it. In the pack definitely stable enough for a frisky big dog.

    Paddlefest 2024

Paddlefest 2024 seems like it is a little bigger than last year, though not at the beach like pre-pandemic. Seems like a lot of the manufacturers, maybe trying to get over the post pandemic boom slowing. https://mountainmanoutdoors.com/pages/paddlesports-adirondack-paddlefest Maybe they could...

    Plus size canoeing?

I think aluminum is best if you own the waterfront, no portages, and you just pull it out and flip it. Right where you need it next time. (I have that land and would like an aluminium canoe to leave there.)

    Plus size canoeing?

I find the Souris River Tranquility to be stable and rugged for a Kevlar canoe and more than enough capacity for me at near 250 when I bought it and another 100+ pounds of gear. High initial stability as well.
