Fears while paddling or on canoe trips

I wouldn't lose any sleep over something like that. "Old ways are the best ways" and disrespecting someone's wife or kids falls into the FAFO category as far as I'm concerned.

    Wife’s New Car

Don't forget that you can add a hitch to just about anything & move the rear support beyond the rear bumper. I did that on my 08 Fusion and it works really well.

    Maine, 1820 trip

He sent word to John Neptune to be ready to go in 2 days... Honestly, I need friends like that: "Dude, I got a gig to go camping for a month or more, so pack your stuff; we leave the day after tomorrow" Really enjoying the TR so far.

    Wife’s New Car

I've never had a brand preference & have never bought anything new. I buy whatever is cheap and run them until they're not even worth anything at the salvage yards except whatever scrap is selling for. That said, my parents recently bought a 1.5L Escape and I'm pretty impressed. I mean, it's...

Bench vs. Bucket Seats: Which Is Better On A Canoe?

Both of my Sawyers & my We-no-nah have buckets & they're ok but I really like one I built for my Raven. Contoured from gunwale to gunwale and dished lower on the front, it's comfortable to sit on and heels the boat automatically as I slide to the rail. I prefer to stay on one side for an...

    EM White Guide 20'

It might be how you're making the adjustments when you change the height of the bits. Because there's a certain amount of slop in any adjustable setting, you can't just unlock the fixture & sneak it up or down a few thousandths. Make a mark or carefully note the depth, move the adjustment well...

    EM White Guide 20'

I'm not sure what the issue is... I've been building with 3/16 inch strips and cutting the bead & cove with 1/4 inch bits. I just make sure that the strip is centered in the bit & then be careful with the cove edges (because they go all the way to paper thin). Granted, maybe I'm doing it...

    Solo on the Light Side

Seems like as good a reason as any to build another. :)

BWCAW: Best campground for basecamp paddling?

I wouldn't see why not. Within the Superior NF & outside the BWCA shouldn't be an issue for the night (or week) prior to your entry permit date. Interestingly, the NF says you're not allowed to leave the camping stuff unattended for more than 24 hours (so you could base camp & venture...

What is your best combo? canoe + plane

$435 puts it back in my price range... was that per person or is it just a really short hop? If per person, how many people? (I go solo so...)

BWCAW: Best campground for basecamp paddling?

The State forests here in PA, BLM land out West, Crown land in Canada and most, if not all, of the National Forests in the US allow dispersed, minimum impact camping outside of designated areas. This is on a "leave no trace" basis or, in the terminology of my childhood, we were told to "take...

How to delete finished post instead of sending/replying

It looks like they've got your pretty well covered but another helpful feature is the "Preview" button in the upper right of your reply box. Getting in the habit of clicking it before posting will let you know what your post will actually look like so you can catch issues (like unwanted text)...

    AI compares CanoeTripping.net with P.com

I can't believe that I've missed it until now but I highly recommend... 5 stars for sure. I mean, I enjoy your TRs but Sadie takes it to a whole new level.

    AI compares CanoeTripping.net with P.com

AI seems to have missed CTN's greater diversity in that not all of our posters are human. In fact, I'd missed it until today when, searching for something else, I ran across this outstanding & very enjoyable TR.

Ai bots threaten the digital canoeing world

Note to all scammers: We're all pretty much broke here from buying canoes, saws, stick stoves, wall tents, epoxy and on and on and on...

    Old Paddle ID request.

Thanks, Benson. He was thinking it might be the Philadelphia Canoe Club but, so far, nobody has been able to find the "PCC" logo on the paddle elsewhere. I've contacted the club to see if anyone recognizes it.

    Old Paddle ID request.

An acquaintance in South Carolina has recently come into possession of an old canoe and some wooden paddles. I'm still waiting for good pictures of the canoe (which he also needs help identifying) but the paddle pictures seemed clear enough to get started. Anyone recognize the PCC marking?

    Favo(u)rite Pastries While Wilderness Canoeing

While I'm amazed by the culinary talents of some of you, I'm not much of a baker, particularly when in the bush. Snack time (usually in lieu of lunch) consists of a bag of trail mix with a "sharing size" M&Ms mixed in for extra chocolate (I get a kick out the "sharing size" misnomer... I have...

    BIRCHBARKS IN THE UK

That's a great find, a terrific backstory and it's even better that you're able to save such a unique boat. Well done and I'll look forward to following along with the restoration.

    First family trip new canoe

The canoe was a great choice IMO and I really like seeing a young family getting into canoe camping. Hopefully, the kids will embrace it enough that they can post trip reports of extended wilderness solos when I'm too old. (gotta plan ahead, ya know)
