    Chestnut Fox for sale

That’s in very good condition, hard to find an original as clean as that anymore. The Fox is a fine paddling canoe.

    Bell Creek Runner

I’m not sure if mine came from Cliff’s book, maybe. I made it out of an old 4 man Ureka Timberline tent fly. That same material can be found today as lightweight tarps and even bought by the yard. My canoe was a wood canvas canoe so I didn’t want to install snaps. I sewed a cord into the...

What do you use to rustproof your wood stove in the off season?

IDK, sitting out in the shop, smoking cigars, drinking beer and listening to Bryan James just gets those gear “tinkering” juices flowing. Been too humid to paint canoes, gotta do something. Me too, every day I make new plans, pretty soon I have to load up and go.

What do you use to rustproof your wood stove in the off season?

Yea buddy, the stove comes in handy, especially on cold mornings! Thanks, I used a wire wheel on my Dewalt “cutter grinder”, knocks off the rust quickly. My stove has seen a lot of use, now over 100 nights, although I sleep with it cold.

What do you use to rustproof your wood stove in the off season?

So I used a wire wheel to clean off a light coat of rust, then applied a light coat of EVO, (extra virgin oil) to the stove and my favorite tripping cold handle frying pan. I ignored the interior, it's got a light coat of rust but after so much use its still solid, even both the false floor and...

What do you use to rustproof your wood stove in the off season?

I used to use plain cooking oil but was told it will turn rancid, although I never noticed that. What do you use.

Thoughts on double bladed paddles from a somewhat experienced double blader.

I rather buy an Imperial gallon @ 2.95 US than a liter @ $1.40 CDN. lol I heard this the other day, There are two types of countrys in the world. Those who use the metric system and those who have put people on the moon. lol

A La Mer du Nord 2025

The brigade crossed the water sharing line last Sunday, July 20. Land climbing is over, we are now sailing the waters off James Bay! Yesterday, Monday, July 21, we reached the huge, beautiful and labyrinthic Lake Obatogamau. We stopped for the night at Pourvoirie lac Obatogamau where we were...

    17' Wenona Spirt 11 restoration

First coat of dark blue Epifanes paint on both canoes, the Kevlar came out much nicer than the canvas covered Robertson. Even with the two coats of primer, canvas always need 3-4 coats of paint, at least in my world. Next, I’ll flip the Wenonah over and sand and paint the interior. The...

    17' Wenona Spirt 11 restoration

I’ve been trying to get things done with the Sprit II, lots of interruptions. The Total Boat “TotalFair” really smoothed things out, along with some glazing putty. After two coats of Interlux “Pre Kote” primer it’s almost ready for paint. The green Chestnut Cruiser is also ready for paint...

Poll: Would you rather do group meals or cook your own?

I tried group meals with the few groups I have gone with. I was always the fish cleaner, firewood getter and one of the clean up guys, or so it seemed. The meals where very good, just too time consuming for my likes. I thought my displeasure with this routine was just me till others expressed...

    Getting Kids into Canoeing

I enjoyed your post @Jmharrick, reminds me of my family back in the early 80’s, we have twin boys and a daughter who came soon after. Our children spent a lot of time in canoes, fishing, camping in the ADK’s or our annual summer vacation in Ontario. Both of my sons have a canoe today, and they...
