Video: Monkeys "rain down" on Silver Springs River, Florida

They are the second ape species to do so in North America. The first originated from Europe. Alan

    Milling ash rails

Nicely done. Hopefully they don't twist and the bowing can be put to good use during installation. Milling is very rewarding but also frustrating; oftentimes both with the same log. Alan

Fears while paddling or on canoe trips

From what little I know about them they certainly seem to be an unpleasant thing to have around. When I was just doing a little reading they were saying they reproduce so quickly that it's pretty much impossible to control their numbers by hunting alone and that there are no poisons or other...

2 Placid Boatworks canoes for sale - SOLD

No need to post the actual address. That would probably be unwise. Just a town or what section of whatever state you're in would be enough for people to know if they're in driving distance or not. Alan

Fears while paddling or on canoe trips

A little Googling and, yep, there it is. I think I might be onto something:

Fears while paddling or on canoe trips

I've not heard of any but maybe in far southern Iowa. That's where the hillbillies are. :) No shortage of imprisoned hogs here. I think every acreage outside of town comes with its own hog confinement. It's like a package deal or something. :) I would guess it's lack of suitable habitat if...

2 Placid Boatworks canoes for sale - SOLD

Nice looking boats. I'm not interested but the first question everyone will have is where the boats are located. Most people will want to see pictures of the actual boats too. Alan

Fears while paddling or on canoe trips

That's interesting. As far as I know they're relegated to the southern US so I figured Canada would be too far north for them. Perhaps it's not the climate but rather the hicks and hillbillies that form their preferred habitat. In that case I guess the hoser portions of Canada would be next...

    R.I.P. Andy

Sad news. I remember Andy when I first joined the online canoeing community on P.net around 20 years ago. I always made a point to read his posts. He seemed very kind and happy to share what he knew. Alan

    Felt safe until now

I don't give a rip about guns but I have no issue with them in this conversation. Some people, justifiably or not, take guns on canoe trips for bear protection and having someone in Canada, who seems to be familiar with the firearm regulations for that country, help clear up some of the rules...

I Googled that and something must have gotten lost in translation:

    Felt safe until now

I'm sure that's what helped shape my feelings but I've done a fair amount of traveling and I don't recall ever feeling more than mildly concerned, and that was mostly just me being paranoid about unfamiliar surroundings. Though I will admit to removing the keys from my car, and sometimes even...

    Felt safe until now

Those places still exist. If you asked me to find my house keys I wouldn't even know where to look. Probably buried at the bottom of the junk drawer. Keys never leave the car ignition. Like you I never expect to be a tabloid story. But you never know what might happen. I've never felt scared...

    Photo of the day

That's pretty neat. I didn't realize they did that. There must be some entertaining moments when the branches don't break. Alan

    Carbon Fiber Delamination

Here's the thread. It was Mistrel as well and used a balsa core. https://www.canoetripping.net/threads/any-tips-on-using-coremat.36979/#post-36982

Quite a few years ago I seem to remember someone repairing a rotted out core in a Twintex hull. Maybe @pblanc ? Alan

Time to build again - Short solo/kid's tandem

Yes, it was "finished" last summer and delivered to Minneapolis to live with the boys of my friends. We got it out for a brief paddle that day but had more important things to do (fish). I didn't get to paddle it that day so this was my first time on the water with this hull. Alan

    Carbon Fiber Delamination

I had an old racing canoe from the mid-80's that had a similar problem. In that case the core was built from balsa, which I guess was common at the time, and they had a tendency to rot out if it got wet. I never attempted to fix it. Alan
