    Proper canoe tripping gitch

Those look too nice to cover up and might make fine single-layer attire for a trip to the local Walmart or Canadian Tire. I have no tripping skivvies (single-layer outers for me) and no fears of transparency. I trip solo so I bathe like an animal and I don't see mooses (meeses?) wearing...

Is this a Royalex? Im back with a new canoe

It's a little hard for me to see from the picture but you say that it looks like a previous repairer might have used Bondo... I'd pick off anything loose and start sanding (actually, I'd start with a rasp but I lack patience), both to smooth out the area and to expose the previous repair. If...

Back to the crater (this time for real?) Manicouagan Reservoir

Really looking forward to following along. Godspeed.

    Mora knives for camp.

I have no experience with Mora and rarely buy new (well... anything really). I do own a rather large, (probably 40 year old) fixed blade Buck that I carry on my belt for hunting but it's a little clumsy for sitting in a canoe and, on a trip, I've never seen the need for anything more than the...

Lynx Lake Loop, Willow Ak. Daytrip

Looks like an awesome day on the water & a beauty of a Pike for your first. Let us know what you think of them as an eating fish (at least that one's big enough to waste meat cutting around those y-bones).

Doing non-racing things with a racing boat?

I vote for "grab it". You can never own too many hulls and it's fun to paddle and release if you don't fall in love.

What shipping charges for a canoe paddle have you paid recently (and what carrier)?

I shipped 3 beavertails last Fall via USPS and I think it was around $30. Of course, I didn't put insurance on them as I leave many things to fate and the recipient was unaware of the shipment any way. If they disappeared in transit, there was nothing really lost.

Show pictures of your tent(s) on a canoe trip

If those are adjacent sites, it looks like they're far enough apart to afford some level of privacy (not really what I expected TBH)

    2025 Canadian Wildfires

I had that same thought as I picked up family at the airport last week. Comparing the traffic today to the traffic at the height of the covid lockdowns, we came to the conclusion that Pittsburgh would be an awesome city if it weren't for all those (other) pesky humans on the roads.

Defaced another boat - Adding lining holes

oof... that looks like it requires a little higher level of precision that what I'm used to (I'm a "meh, good enough" kinda guy). I guess I could try a smaller pipe & gouge out the hole when I fail. (I'll pm a few questions to minimize thread drift)

    2025 Canadian Wildfires

The fires have certainly impacted canoe tripping and will, probably, continue to do so. I've been researching routes for the bucket list and @Marten tells me that WCPP and the surrounding area has been devastated (not to mention that his plans got cancelled this year). I suppose it might be...

Defaced another boat - Adding lining holes

Cool, Thanks Tony. Now the only question that remains is: Drill holes in the new Raven before I officially paddle it or actually scratch the hull on a rock before I drill holes in it? (overall stress level in my life has been receding lately... maybe some self-inflicted stress is OK)

New food limits for personal use when entering Canada

That's the one that caught my eye too. Kinda like packing freeze-dried walleye isn't it? Now, hickory syrup... I could (maybe) see that as it would be harder to find locally- tough to get here unless you DIY. (I'm still not portaging 20L of it though)

    Hello from.the netherlands

 Sacrilege! (just kidding. Your, umm, feet would get cold sitting in the ice anyway. Never did see the point in ice baths... tried once... NOPE))

Defaced another boat - Adding lining holes

I like the flexible tubing idea! Can you share the materials list and the actual process for the vandalism? (I can see me drilling a few holes in perfectly good boats myself) Edit: nevermind on the materials list, I found it in this thread. I am still wondering if you epoxy the tube into...

    Hello from.the netherlands

Welcome. Always nice to see pics from other parts of the world. I know some people that portage beer coolers but never seen one paddled before. With the lid open like that, doesn't the ice melt faster (or do you prefer warm beers)?

Repairing a Royalex canoe- Advice and Repair

Yesterday's post was a new guy. mweekes reopened an old thread and says at the beginning that he bought this boat. Probably should have started a new thread that (maybe) referred back to the old (whose OP hasn't been around since the last post above) but that might be tough for a forum newbie...

Repairing a Royalex canoe- Advice and Repair

Yee-Haw, looks like you found some gnarly water! Are the 2nd & 3rd pictures both of the stem that was damaged (4th & 7th pics)? Unless the hull is soft around the damaged area in the 1st & 6th pics, I don't think I'd worry too much about them & I certainly wouldn't worry about the scratches in...

    Hello from Oregon

Welcome & sorry that I missed your intro over the weekend. Great pic too... I always like seeing the PNW & the snowy ridges in the background.

    Hello from Vermont

Welcome. Glad to have you along & happy that you decided to do more than lurk. Can't help much with route suggestions up there but I'll certainly look forward to pictures & trip reports if you got 'em.
