    What is your least favorite portage?

    Probably the Dubawnt River Canyon--2.5 miles, but we didn't have to deal with trees (brush, boulders, bogs, yes). But, we still had 30 days of food with us, so three heavy trips.

    Wollaston or Black Lake to Kasba Lake

    I've paddled from Wollaston Lake to Hudson Bay, via the Cochrane, Kognac, Thetinne, Windy, Thlewiaza and ThaAnne rivers. Last year I paddled from Wholdaia Lake to Baker Lake via the Dubawnt and Thelon rivers. All of these rivers have a fair bit of whitewater.

    Snake infested water bodies

    I grew up in S.C., and some of my earliest canoe trips were to catch snakes on a local creek. We'd let them go at the end. I moved to western Washington after college, and it took me a year or so to stop looking at every step since there weren't any poisonous snakes around.

    Use barbell clamps to secure the slider. Newer Wenonah come standard with them. Hose clamps if you're cheap and don't need to adjust them on the fly.

    I have some Pacific Water Sports (probably NRS) nylon float bags I bought, and last used, in 1988. They're still in good shape, and still hold air.

    They list the blade area on their site. The 8.5" width blade is 110 sg. in. The 8" blade is 100 sq. in.

    I've been on the Alsek, Thelon, and Green. You've seen some of my Thelon pix, and I don't have any digital Green (paddled in 2000). The Alsek, though, is truly spectacular!
