Another new camping trend - individual tents

I've usually shared a 3 person tent with another. Often one of my sons, but a few times with clients I've invited. Shared tent with other adult leader at Philmont. Just seems like logical weight savings and leaves less trace.

    Canoecopia 2025

Just a reminder if you're planning on attending Canoecopia 2025, Match 7-9, hotel rooms are going fast. Great event with many manufacturers. I'm probably 15 years without missing one, and attended some before that.

Kevin Callan: Death of the Campfire

If solo, I rarely build a campfire. But out on work weekends on NFCT, it's quite nice with 10-15 people. So depends on company.

Lows lake Lower Dam repair project

I don't know when that was but IIRC, I was there when I was 17 at Scout camp, 1969. No recollection of where we paddled.

Best Places to Live in the US for Canoeing?

I wouldn't discount winters in Ely, though I'd love to live there myself.

    Isabella River, BWCAW?

Yup. A few entry points to get out but no short cut. I think the Gull - Clearwater - Rock Island cut off would take longer. I figure this is a 2 week loop. Thought I'd start at Lake One and plan to renter at Hog Creek after September.

    Isabella River, BWCAW?

I agree. If you want no portages, follow the shore of one of the big lakes. Moose, LLC, or Sag.

Lows lake Lower Dam repair project

I'm looking at first week of November. Lower dam to inlet.

    Isabella River, BWCAW?

You set your own rates at Paddle Planner. I use 2.5 mph for paddle, 1.5 mph for portage, double portage, and 3 minute loading/unloading. Ultimately I can do 10- 12 miles a day average.

    Isabella River, BWCAW?

Isn't the whole loop - Isabella and Kawishiwi - 8 to 10 days? Isabella from ep36 to Bald Eagle is around 3 days.

WTB - used lightweight solo canoe in the NE

For light weight, Hornbeck beats most, and new prices are similar to used prices on Swifts. Visit their shop and test paddle on their pond. Bring the gear you usually paddle with to test the fit.

    Isabella River, BWCAW?

I only have done Isabella River from Bald Eagle to third portage east, in October. Nice paddle. I understand there are a lot of beaver fans towards east end. A loop including Isabella and Kawihiwi Rivers has been on my list. I thought I'd start on Lake One, go east on Kawishiwi, and back west...

How accurate do you find Paddle Planner?

Thinking about it, I use Paddle Planner more for making a record of the trip just taken rather than planning the next. :)

How accurate do you find Paddle Planner?

It interesting what attributes of a camp site are valued and which not. I'm a wet footer and don't mind getting out in knee deep water April to November, so rarely look at landings. I do highly value level tent pads however. I realize and accept others have different priorities. People who...

How accurate do you find Paddle Planner?

I tend to think of the paddle speed as an average speed. It's also sort of an approximation. I'd never rely on any paddle planning to be someplace at 3:35 on the dot. It's more knowing I'll usually be on the water by 8:00 and want to make camp by 2:00 or 3:00 but so what if Im early or late?

How accurate do you find Paddle Planner?

I used past trips to reverse engineer my paddling, portaging, and loading speeds, so I find it a good indicator. I also don't plan my routes or stick to them if I do, making next days plans each evening.
