What do you use to rustproof your wood stove in the off season?

Thanks for the ideas, I’ll just stick with plain old cooking oil.

What do you use to rustproof your wood stove in the off season?

I used to use plain cooking oil but was told it will turn rancid, although I never noticed that. What do you use.

Thoughts on double bladed paddles from a somewhat experienced double blader.

I rather buy an Imperial gallon @ 2.95 US than a liter @ $1.40 CDN. lol I heard this the other day, There are two types of countrys in the world. Those who use the metric system and those who have put people on the moon. lol

A La Mer du Nord 2025

The brigade crossed the water sharing line last Sunday, July 20. Land climbing is over, we are now sailing the waters off James Bay! Yesterday, Monday, July 21, we reached the huge, beautiful and labyrinthic Lake Obatogamau. We stopped for the night at Pourvoirie lac Obatogamau where we were...

A La Mer du Nord 2025

The brigade à la mer du Nord has completed the portion in the beautiful Réserve faunique Ashuapmushuan and we would like to thank them for embarking on the adventure as a partner and allowing the brigade to cross this exceptional territory. This stage was not full of rest: climbing rivers to...

    17' Wenona Spirt 11 restoration

Living in Maine that never entered my mind. I’m painting the interior grey.

    17' Wenona Spirt 11 restoration

First coat of dark blue Epifanes paint on both canoes, the Kevlar came out much nicer than the canvas covered Robertson. Even with the two coats of primer, canvas always need 3-4 coats of paint, at least in my world. Next, I’ll flip the Wenonah over and sand and paint the interior. The...

    17' Wenona Spirt 11 restoration

I’ve been trying to get things done with the Sprit II, lots of interruptions. The Total Boat “TotalFair” really smoothed things out, along with some glazing putty. After two coats of Interlux “Pre Kote” primer it’s almost ready for paint. The green Chestnut Cruiser is also ready for paint...

Poll: Would you rather do group meals or cook your own?

I tried group meals with the few groups I have gone with. I was always the fish cleaner, firewood getter and one of the clean up guys, or so it seemed. The meals where very good, just too time consuming for my likes. I thought my displeasure with this routine was just me till others expressed...

    Getting Kids into Canoeing

I enjoyed your post @Jmharrick, reminds me of my family back in the early 80’s, we have twin boys and a daughter who came soon after. Our children spent a lot of time in canoes, fishing, camping in the ADK’s or our annual summer vacation in Ontario. Both of my sons have a canoe today, and they...

    Peterborough Minetta

I have #12 canvas on a 14’ Chestnut Fox, I’m careful and it’s holding up well. I make/use traditional filler from the recipe in the excellent book “This Old Canoe” by Mike Elliot. (lots of Chestnut/Peterborough information in it) I have read mixed reviews on alternate fillers but I spent time in...

Food fads and contradictory dietary advice/studies

I started keto the day after Christmas, loosing 35lbs since. My goal was to loose weight to help me stay Mobil with my weak hamstrings. (50-50 chance the weakness was caused by statins prescribed to me in 2014, a well documented risk of statins) When compared to last year, my blood work showed...

Misc Ramblings From the 'ole Miss(inaibi)

Great report, very interesting and informative. I lost a canoe in an easy rapids through my own fault, retrieved my gear and bushwhacked to a logging road, eventually being driven out by an elderly couple to Matachewan, Ontario. Got a room, the proprietor found a nice guy to drive me to my truck...

A La Mer du Nord 2025

The brigade of the expedition To the North Sea left Tadoussac on May 31, four weeks ago already. Since then, it is several hundred kilometers by canoe that have been covered up the rivers, starting with the Fjord-du-Saguenay, then the Chicoutimi River with its seven portions, the crossing of...

    My new pack basket

That’s a nice basket, looks great in the canoe. I’m always scanning the internet for baskets. Mine is just a run of the mill ice fishing basket, it’s nice but I’d really like one like yours. Most of the ones I see for sale are either beat up and damaged or too expensive.
