I purchased a restored 1966 Chestnut Prospector for White Rose. We went out back to their warehouse to load it. If you think are are a lot of canoes in the retail space, well there are at leas twice as many out back. Awesome people and awesome inventory.

The stem band is definitely not original. When I pinch the stem if feels firm, so I'm optimistic but I suppose one never knows until the canvas is off.

Yup. I may make another style with defined sides but without all the straps and handles and loops you see on so many other packs, both nylon and canvas. I like simple packs.

Does this canoe require a full re-canvas or is it just in need of good sanding and a paint job? It's for sale near me and I'm interested only if I am refilling canvas and painting. Also, if the paint is this bad, is it likely the bedding in the stems is bad, too?
