Reducing weight of a Strip built hull

Clear poly sheeting? https://www.uline.com/BL_4001/Clear-Poly-Sheeting. Quite spendy for the heavy gauge stuff.

Purple Rain my new Hemlock Eaglet

Is there no limit to color choice since it is a dyed fabric? Sorry Ripple but you have to pay to play but I am with you but my $250 OT Camper sure was heavy getting it to the water this last weekend. All my boats get covered in Iowa farm field silt and I can only imagine the horror of...

Improve your boat control techniques to enhance all types of canoeing

This post hits home. I am a 1, 2 and 8/9. All I am trying to do is slow life down and take in the scenery being out on the water. It is cool to see all these techniques and to see freestyle first hand at WPASCR was a different experience. But to be proficient takes an enormous of time and...

Doing non-racing things with a racing boat?

I purchased a 80's mixer for $200 many years ago. I am too big to sit in the seats so I sat on a pad in the middle and used a 260cm aquabound carbon paddle. It was very stable just sitting on a lake or large river this way and it had good speed when paddling. I put my teenage kids in the...

I'm not crazy, I can feel it.

With achy hips I can tell when the cold/warm fronts come through. Last week when the temp dropped from the low 90's with humidity to 70 and half the humidity I should have reached for the ibuprofen. It was weird the pain only lasted for 4 to 5hrs and then it was gone.

Wenonah Adirondack...its had a hard life

I have to stop watching FB marketplace. Picked up this 95 Wenonah tuffweave canoe for $70. It has had a hard life but I figure with some elbow grease and some S-glass I can make it float once again. I have plenty of GFlex and medium set US Composite epoxy. On the bow/stern there are...

    Wenonah Encounter - Why Not?

I had an 97 tuffweave encounter until the tornado tore the roof off the boat shed and threw the boat into the trees. I am 6'1 and 290lbs. I liked the boat but not the bucket seat/narrow sitting station. I have bad hips so getting in and out of the boat was tough as well. It cruised great...

    Load Stop Project

I fill pretty good with the purchase after seeing those keelovers. I finally unpacked my packages and I bought gunwale brackets instead of load stops but they look identical. Installing the rack is on the agenda for tomorrow.

    Load Stop Project

I have never paid more than $500 for a canoe. At one time I had 9 canoes and I think I sold half of them to Alan G when my family did not have the passion for canoes like I do. The boats are not cream puffs but still in fine usable shape and some needed a new seat or skid plates or found a...

    Load Stop Project

I figure by the time you fart around, make adjustments and gather material you could just spend the money on some load stops. I bought a 2 pair pack of yakima round bar load stops from ebay for $42 shipped to my door. I don't have a nice boat yet so don't care much about the gunnels.

New Issue with my Swift portage yoke

Yes it is quite the racket when you have to register a canoe both from in state and out of state boats. The OT camper I bought was a farm pond boat and never registered in Iowa. Had to have it inspected by the DNR and given more paperwork to fill out. Now a days a bill of sale has to...

Canoe foot brace - side pegs or cross bar?

With bad hips I find the kayak foot braces to be uncomfortable spreading the legs too far apart so it has to be a cross bar or nothing.

    Overhead Rack Replacement

Too bad you are not closer I would take the load bars off your hands. Foolishly sold all my load bars and gutter mounts 5 years ago when I thought I was getting out of canoeing. I have spent a little over $400 (ebay, FB) piecing a rack together for the prius saving about $200.

"Momentum Matters": A Technique Essay by Marc Ornstein

Their movements are almost robot like 🤖 and I don't think I ever saw a smile on their faces like they were having fun. I would be flailing my paddle around trying to stay the course. Maybe not that bad. Is that what the Pine Barrens are like?? Might have to take it off the bucket list if...
