Thoughts on double bladed paddles from a somewhat experienced double blader.

I never tried a double blade until I got my OT NEXT, but after using it for 3 years, I wouldn't use anything else. I'm so pleased with it I'm starting to use a DB with my 15' tandem. I find it's much easier on my back and legs. I still carry a single blade for emergencies.

Poll: Would you rather do group meals or cook your own?

I've done both, but I prefer solo cooking. After all these years I have meals down pat, quick and easy. The less pots and pans the better. My tastes are changing as I get older, it seems I don't eat as much as I did when younger. Meals are simple but good. Some meat and something to go along...

    Paddling in an Apocalypse

I have to agree with Robin. I have everything I need right here at home, and if I need help, I trust my neighbors of 50 years more then moving somewhere and dealing with strangers.

How is this for camp food

Congrats on feeding so many people. Eight people is a lot to feed for a meal. Sometimes a hot "stick to the ribs" meal can make a trip. We still talk about the breakfast we had after two days of tent bound cold rain.

How is this for camp food

At my age I like to eat good when in camp. Breakfast is always a big event at my camp. I always plan and start the day with real food, eggs, meat, toast, or pancakes washed down with plenty of coffee. With a good Farmers breakfast under my belt I can go hard most of the day till afternoon...

Show pictures of your tent(s) on a canoe trip

When a bad storm blew up on Long Like I had to get off the lake fast. My old cheap "clearance" tent.

    Photo of the day

 Sometimes on long trips or in shoulder season, I feel like my canoe is loaded like that. You just have to "Keep On Trucking" :)

    16’ Penobscot Soloized and Squeezed

Nice job! I like going from 36" to 32" width without changing the hull, should make it much easier to paddle. Should be really good for tripping.

    End of Grey Owl Paddles?

I'm sorry to see any small shop close. I'm glad to see it picked up by the hockey stick people, should be a good combination.

    Getting Kids into Canoeing

What a great story. In the past few years, I have had my doubts about the younger generation getting involved in the outdoors, but your story gives me hope that they will carry on. Good job to you and your wife.

Show us pictures of your canoe vehicle with boat(s)

Picture of my OT Next. With my bad back and legs, the seat in this canoe has made it possible for me to continue tripping.

    Week of BWCA Wind

Thanks for posting. After reading about your wind adventure, it makes me feel better for making the right call last year and cutting my trip short and not canoeing out to my site. You just never know with the wind, things could turn out wrong.

Foam block pad for one-shoulder carries

Very interesting article. I've been looking for something to help move my canoe the short distant from the car to the water. Distant is too short to barrow with yoke and a pain to try to carry without something. I'll be sure to try this out.

    Sylvania

Thanks for the report. It sounds like you learned a few things camping in the rain, knowledge you can use in the future. Sorry about all the rain. But, as they say Even a bad trip is better than no trip at all.

Jokes and Laughter for the Day

You're not going to believe this , but there was a place here in Liberty that was just like this. It had a hardware, video rental, pool hall, tanning beds, indoor archery range, auto repair and charm school all in the same old building. They're all gone now, those were the days.

    Salmon River Reservoir canoe camping

I was considering canoe camping at the NY Salmon River Reservoir, but I have heard some bad problems of leaving your car unintended and all night beer parties. Stuff like that I don't need and would like to hear anyone's opinion that has stayed there. Any information would be helpful.
