    Yet another Whitney Loop TR

We spent the third night at the primitive site on Bog Pond. A little note here about the site: There is a fire ring in the field but after the downpour of that day the field was running water and had no place to hang a hammock. We started to look around for a dryer spot to stay. I found what...

There have been some really great TRs about the Whitney Loop, this is not going to be one of them. We left from the Park Headquarters around 11 AM on the 17th of Sept R-L Me, my son Josh, and his friend Mike. I'm paddling a Keywaydin 15, They are in a Souris River Quetico 17. Little Tupper was...

Electrical device you are most likely and least likely to eliminate

Inreach, camera, headlamp, and a weather radio, which has saved my bacon on a couple of trips. I'm not giving any of them up. The phone stays in the car.

Poll: What is Your Current Preferred Method of Water Filtration/Purification?

I have an MSR Gravity Feed but use Sawyer Filters that work great as long as your pre-moisten them.

    Essential nonessentials.

Cut the toothbrush in half, remove the labels, etc, etc...whatever else you need to do to cut down on the weight but the chair goes with me on every trip. I have always used a canoe seat until this year and made it thru 3 trips this year without missing it. For our Whitney Loop try, I found a...

Great Solo trip to the North Maine Woods

@Ruttrowe if you make it back to the area, paddle into Daggett Pond. I have never seen as many moose (and Great Blue's) in that small section of Ciss Stream. The carry up to Shallow Pond from Daggett is fun (not maintained) and if you do it at the end of July/beginning of August, there are a lot...

    Nice ADK video

I just found this video and wanted to share it. This is where I've taken my grandson canoeing for the past 4 years Our canoe trips would make his map look like a figure 8 we only do half of his route in a year and we're in empty canoes. Don't get any Party Camping ideas at Site: 10. I think...

    Useless gear, equipment and garments

I don't like Multi-tools Leathermans, Swiss Army... pounds/use I just don't see the need for them in the woods. I have never said 'If I only had a Phillips Screwdriver...' The knives are weak, and I carry one, the saws are useless and again I take one. Yes it may help in a survival situation...

    Food security

I have a barrel that I keep my food in, that I move to a corner of the site at night, and place cookware on top. On the Allagash, we jam the coolers under the table. All that and we work hard to keep the site clean So far no problems
