Under canvas tarps or Bag Lady bags and on saw horses for me. After a good snow storm I usually get the worst of it off just for my own sense of well bing. The coastal enviroment isn't something I have to deal with.

Looking forward to a report. Having stuck (at least temporarily) multiple items in trees over the years, I can't beleive there's not a better way.

I expect it is because a lot of people don't cook over the fire anymore, and use a stove instead. The fire is decorative, and the stereotypcial firepit/hearth is a circle of stones.

I had forgotten about the time I was group camping on a river in CO near another group. Some idiot from the other group decided to go drunk 4-wheeling in the middle of the night, and nearly ran us down in our tents. Not good to wake up to a revving engine with headlights fast approaching.

Got a couple of Alps Mountaineering 35L dry bags for various uses at the beginning of the summer. Wish they came in different colors, but orange at least is hard to lose/leave behind. And a Helinox Chair One chair, on sale from EMS. Might get another AM dry bag for next year, bigger though...

Put me down in the Whisperlite camp. Not the most high tech or lightest stove out there, but somehow it is very satisfying to use when compared to a cannister stove. And put me down for the camp chair as well. Last, not so much a luxury, but a down quilt has replaced a mummy bag for me. So...

I start piling things up a few days before departure as they come to mind, but the day before I spread it all out and confirm that I have everything I need, get the stuff I don't have, and set aside the things I don't need. Then I pack it all up nice and organized, and make sure it fits...
